VanNRox Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi All, I have a Starite SR333NA heater about 8 years old. It is hooked up to a Goldline Control P8 System. When we turn the SPA on the temperature display on the unit shows about 10-15 degrees hotter than the actual water temperature. So far I have changed the Thermistor and checked the brown wires going from the Thermistor to the Control Panel. The Control Panel looks to be ok but I can't be sure. Next I isolated the heater from the Goldline system and it ran the same, still showing temperature hotter than actual. Upon discussion with Starite(Pentair) they had me take out the Thermal Regulator and inspect it. I took it out and it looks worn (I will post a picture once I figure out how). I did run the system without the Thermal Regulator in it briefly and it still shows hotter than actual. I don't know if it would do that with a good one out or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
Pool Clown Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 When you are getting the higher temp, is this when you first turn on the heater and it has not yet fired? Or is it after the heater fires? Quote
VanNRox Posted January 31, 2013 Author Report Posted January 31, 2013 Hi Pool Clown i.e. Spa Guru. I was hoping to catch you and thanks for the reply. I just double checked. The same (incorrect) temp is on the display from the moment the heater is turned on and throughout the firing and running process, about 10 degrees more on the display. The difference does get a little more as higher actual water temp is achieved until the unit turns off once the display gets to 105/106, but the actual water is 92. Also, I did an Ohm check (for the first time for me) on the new Thermistor and it showed 9375 at 80 degrees which I believe is in range. Thanks for you time and any helpful input! Quote
Pool Clown Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 What you describe sounds like the thermistor has failed. But if you replaced it, i don't know. Unless you were sold a defective/used one?? Was your new thermistor gold or silver? Quote
VanNRox Posted January 31, 2013 Author Report Posted January 31, 2013 The Thermistor was silver that I installed and matched the one it replaced. I did test the Ohms on the Thermistor while the pool water ran through it and it put out 9375 ohms in 80 degree water. I also cleaned and checked the connections from the thermistor to the circuit control board. Quote
Pool Clown Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 I would speak to whoever sold the part to you and explain what is happening. I would ask if you could try a different one before i purchased a board. Call Pentair and ask if the ohm reading you were getting is what it should be for the temp displayed. It might be a board, i have not seen that (problem) though. First time for everything i guess. Quote
