ulao Posted November 3, 2012 Report Posted November 3, 2012 I had my motor replaced about 8 months ago and I just noticed there is a leak from the motor ( at the shaft end ). I tried to tighten all bolts to the houseing but apperently its a leak nere the motor shaft. I guess what I'm wondering is, what is common cause? Or is it one of those could be anything? Its not a drip, its a good stream of 1/4 water commming out. Quote
Pool Clown Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 Typical cause, pump ran dry. Could also be that the seal plate oring may not have been changed. Or the clamp(on certain pumps) was not completely tightened. If any valve on the outlet side(discharge) was closed while the pump was running, it can cause a leak from excessive pressure. Quote
LegsOnEarth Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Could be the shaft seal too, depending on where the water is coming out. Basically you are going to have to take the wet end apart and check everything. You should find out exactly what components were replaced on the pump 8 monthes ago if you had a technician do the work for you. Typically you should have had the seal plate oring replaced (as Pool Clown mentioned) as well as a new shaft seal installed whenever the motor is replaced. Quote
I Service Your Pool Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I see that a lot.Me personally it's always the shaft seal that is the cause of the leak. Quote
