tampatony Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 I have a Sta-rite Sys 3 DE filter system on 13k gal inground pool with a 2hp pump. I assume there is a hole in the filter element(60 sq ft) since the DE medium & small pieces of vacuumed debris makes it's way into the pool. I've examined the element the best I could and did not find a break as well as where it connects to the return port inside the filter case. I have 2 questions: 1. What other reason could there be for my problem? 2. Can I replace my current filter syst with a Jacuzi Sherlok Sher120 filter system or is this just for a hottub? Thanks Quote
POOLTASTIC Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 Sounds like maybe the valve on the filter is sticking in backwash .... Quote
Pool Clown Posted October 15, 2012 Report Posted October 15, 2012 What you are looking for is more of a rip in the grid material rather than a break. You may also get by-passing from the air bleed tube that connects to the top of the grid bundle (manifold). The bleeder should also be checked for a rip, and to confirm that it is still attached. Also, the backwash valve may have lost an o-ring which helps seal between the clean and dirty areas of the valve. Having a 2 hp pump on that filter puts more stress on the grids. Not that the filter cannot handle it, you just need to be more vigilant about monitoring pressure, and backwashing. Quote
Poolspotpro Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Finding where the d.e. and debris is getting past can be a challenge as it can be at all the places mentioned above. I have had problems in the past with d.e. filters blowing debris back and eventually replaced every component from the grids to the valve and still had an issue. I'm not familiar with the system 3 with d.e. grids but if you are thinking on changing filters, my opinion is to get a Hayward cartridge filter if you have the bucks. Jacuzzi isn't my favorite filter maker. Either way, you shouldn't have much of an issue replacing filters but you will more than likely have to hard plumb your existing pump to the replacement filter with pvc. Quote
