I recently converted to Pristine Blue from salt. The computer circuit board that tells my salt cell to make chlorine went out, so my husband decided to try Pristine after hearing about it from some friends who love it. Now I have black algae that I cannot get rid of! I am ready to drain the pool and start over. And switch back to salt. Help!

Pristine Blue is a copper-based system, it's copper in a bottle, and can leave unsightly copper stains on the hard surfaces inside the pool if used with no product education.

Not one of my typically recommended sanitizer go-to's.

I would have had the salt system repaired/fixed personally.

I have worked for companies in the past where their entire client base were on copper-based systems and have extensive background working with/on them.

It is a viable option for people who are truly sensitive to chlorine, but what I've found in my experience is people who thought they were sensitive to chlorine were not maintaining the chlorine properly, and were simply bothered by the dead (combined) chlorine. Once that problem was solved and they were educated as to how to properly maintain a chlorine-based pool, they were fine. I have run into a few people who actually were extremely sensitive to chlorine, but they are very few and far between.

If you continue to use Pristine Blue, I highly recommend you fully educate yourself to that systems' in's and outs, copper systems have the best chance of success when the client has a very thorough understanding of exactly what they're adding to their pool. There's not a lot of 'wiggle room' with copper products, you have to understand what they do, what they can do, and how to prevent the bad things, and that takes some education.

Also, realize that copper is NOT an EPA approved primary santizer, it is merely an algaecide and MUST be used with a primary residual santiizer (chlorine or bromine). They EPA registration is for copper sulfate, their primary active ingredient.
