I need to replace a skimmer in an in-ground pool. The existing skimmer is a SwimQuip 8650. I am shopping for a replacement skimmer and most of them are constructed of ABS. Some of them have pipe threads and some of them have slip (glue) fittings. I have been told that slip (glue) fittings are better but I am concerned about gluing ABS to PVC. The Pentair Bermuda is available in PVC. Why are most skimmers made of ABS? Is ABS a better material for making skimmers than PVC?

Most skimmer to plumbing connections for liner and F/G pools are threaded. Gunite's are often glued since they are embedded in concrete.
