Guest Steve White Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Hi folks! We're looking into getting a pool and have already had one contractor, Windmill Pools come by and give us a quote...$32.5k for 81 ft. perimeter, beach entry, stone coping, 400 sq.ft. of deck, waterfall easing into a water wall. We're going to get another quote from Platinum Pools. Have any of you had any experience with these two companies or would like to recommend someone else? Thanks in advance... Guest doug Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 We are looking at Platinum as a final builder. They have been very good in sitting down and going over the details. Looked at Gold Medal, Robertsons & Riverbend/Sandler as well. All have good reputations. We are willing to pay more for better quality. Gold Medal is high on price as well as Riverbend when compairing what Platinum is giving you. Robertsons never followed up with us after initial visit as we decided to just cut them out of the loop at this point then. Never heard of Windmill. We recently found a bunch of people we know who used Foley Pools so we may get them to quote as well. Doug in Frisco Quote
Guest Del Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 We are dealing with Platinum right now. We are waiting for decking and I have to say I am glad we went with them. They are a class act. Quote
Guest Jim Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 We had Blue haven come out but, had a bad feeling, so We had Platinum Pools come out to look and see what they come up with. The deal they came back with seem to good to be true and decided to look further into the background of Platinum Pools and our findings were BLUE HAVEN POOLS OWNS THEM. Need I say more! Guest Jeff Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Windmill is working a quote for me now. I have seen some of their work in Allen. The pools looked really nice, but did not get to talk to the owners about their experience. Was wondering who you ended up using in Lewisville. jef² in Allen Quote
Guest Ernie Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Windmill pools built a pool for me last summer, the owners were great an I highly recommend them to anyone looking to invest in their home. We were very apprehensive towards pool contractors simply because of all the horror stories on the internet, These folks queled my fears and made me feel as if they were part of my family, they truely took my families best interest at heart. In my opinion when it comes to contractors these guys raise the bar of expectations. Please call if you are even thinking about a beautiful backyard. They truly delivered Ernie G. Mansfield, TX Quote
Guest Karen Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 In my prior home I build with Southerwind Pools. Great service. I am planning in building another pool in our new home. Got quotes from Riverbend/Sandler, Robertsons and Southerwind Pools. Robertsons seems to give you more, still pricey, but you get a bit more for the money. Wondering if I can get any reference from Robertsons. I don't know much about them. Quote
Guest Chris Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Blue Haven does not own Platinum pools. Quote
Guest J Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Bad info. I work for Platinum. I would never be a part of Blue Haven Quote
Guest Jenny in TX Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 We are having a pool built with Platinum and we have been very happy so far. Quote
Guest Amy Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I live in the Lewisville area and Windmill Pools is building our Project and I am So....So..... Happy!!!!!! My husband and I looked at many companies. We just loved the design and presentation these guys gave. I think the durabilty on these guys pool blows everyone away they are doing 5" on centers on the steel and 18" thick on the beam. Everyone elses 6" thick. We had friends that told us to go with the bigger companies but, after doing research We weren't going to be a client how about picking a number, whomever is reading this a number. Get in line and no customer service. If You are thinking of a Pool or Spa or Arbors and Gazeebos or sprinklers and Landscaping WINDMILL POOLS. Quote
Guest mike @ lewisville Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 Almost nothing on my PLATINUM POOL construction has been as promised. Contract signed June 15, 2005 Layout of pool substancially closer to house than drawing request, adding some $500 - $900 decking cost over quote request drawing. Excavation promised 1st day after permit approval. Lewisville permit approval dated 7-01-05, excavation started some "3 weeks later". Construction halted by local manager dues to my demands that I actually get items requested in quote & agreed to by salesman. Situation only settled after owner of Pltinum Pools in Houston home office was involved. After guniting, we were told pool would cure for "7-10 days" & then construction would resume at a fast pace till completion. Tomorrow is "14 days" and there has been no tile / coping crew on site. We were told by salesman we would pay Platinum Pools a final 5% payment after construction was completd and we were satisfied. I now see in our contract that final payment is due before they will plaster the pool. At least Blue Haven Pools was upfront about demanding payment in full before completion......which is why I wouldn't deal with them to start with. These are only highlights of a very bad expeirence. It appears likey Platinum Pools will take "OVER 2 MONTHS" to complete a small and simple pool. Quote
Guest Larissa F. Posted September 26, 2005 Report Posted September 26, 2005 I too have a horror story about Platinum Pools and was hoping you could share some information @ contacting their president. My families pool was supposed to by finished the first week of July but is still under construction. The pool in question began in May of this year as part of my parents dream retirement home. After the hole was dug and the rebar laid for the pool my step-dad was diagnosed with cancer and died within 5 days. We had the pouring of the gunite post-poned for 5 days for the funeral but felt that we needed to get it taken care of. After the gunite was poured and cured up (10 days) Platinum said the tile and coping would be laid the next day. We called and called but no one ever returned our calls or bothered to show up. Finally we got a call saying that they were having problems getting the coping and could they change it. It was a very difficult time for my mom and our family and my step-dad had helped picked out everything for the pool and we didn't want to change it. Platinum put us off for almost a month and told us they had the stone coping but now they couldn't get the tile. Platinum advised that we would have to change the tile now or wait at least a minimum of six weeks or more. The salesperson tried making calls to get the tile from some place else but we ended up having to change the tile. Finally they came out and laid the tile and coping. Next they were to start the deck so we waited and called and waited some more. No answer from anyone. The main contact with the company quite working for Platinum and no one from the company bothered to contact us until after numerous calls. The deck was built higher than proposed and now has a drop off into the yard of more than 4 feet even though we had been questioning the whole process but Platinum finally agreed to build a retaing wall so the deck didn't collapse and get washed away. Platinum said they would send someone last week. Then it was they would be here today to build the wall. So far we have not had any phone calls returned by anyone with Platinum and no one has bothered to return any of our calls. On Platinums website they talk about customer service but I ask what kind of service is this for a grieving widow and family still mourning the shocking loss. It almost seems more like torture than service. Any contact information you could lend is greatly appreciated. Quote
alanmarks Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 We observed several (3 friends and neighbors) have pools built. 2 went with Riverbend and 1 went with PlayMore Pools. It seemed like the experiences of the Riverbend friends was completely dependent on which supervisor was assigned to the job and you don't get a choice. One turned out great and the other had alot "Issues". Our neighbor went with a smaller company named PlayMore Pools. Their pool is absolutely gorgeous and has some really neat features we hadn't seen before. The owner of the company personally supervises the jobs. We called then and their bid was right on price and we went with them too. Painless process and pool is AWESOME. Their stonework is VERY nice. We did have a problem with a salt system part and they were on it immediately. Kept us informed of status and had it replaced the following day. They did extras they could have charged us for but didn't. We'd recommend them to anyone. Great company. Quote
