Not in NY Im sure the builder is making good money on the salt generator. To say $1000 for the unit is insane. Quote
NccPools Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 Before going futher; let me make sure the facts are right. 1. the ecomatic salt system(esc 16 or 48) is 10 years old? 2. The salt cell only has a 8,000 to 10,000 hour life span and then you need to replace the cell not the power pak. 3 Balboa went bankrupt 2 -3 yrs ago and sold this portion, parts are very hard to come by. Saltline usa is the company that purchased ecomatic system. Did you buy the unit? Quote

The builder has one in his own pool and he has had it for 15 years without any problem. The salt unit has not been installed yet, maybe in the next two weeks or so. Quote

I simply would like to know if it is a good and reliable model. Quote

What makes Goldline or autopilot better? reliability, parts available easily, major brands, proven track record for both. FWIW, Goldline is part of Hayward and Autopilot part of Horner (Aquacal heat pumps also)---both major pool product companies. As far as it goes both offer options that make them the two most sophisticated SCWGs on the market. Quote

(not that I will ever be swimming in that temp)Im spending 70k on the pool I would like to think my pool builder would not use anything but the best. He puts Ecomatic in all the pools he built. I have seen 3 pools he has done. All those pools were easily over 100k Quote

However, don't be naive about how the industry operates. Also realize that both Goldline and Autopilot are made here in the US. Ecomatic is Australian. Quote

waterbear Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I posted the thread looking for someone who owns the ecomatic. I want a review. Does anyone know if this a any good. He tells me his eco-matic is 15 yrs old with original cell. Also he is charging $3200 Perhaps you should question why no one has an ecomatic. If you want an Australian unit check into WaterMaid. Another company with a proven track record. Also, $3200 is a bit excessive for a SWCG installed for a basic unit, which the ecomatic is. Also remember that buiilders will tell you just about anything to make a sale. The brands they choose often depend more on what their distributors have readily available for the best price than any other factor or what companies they have special programs with. It is a business after all. Quote
NccPools Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Make sure the cell is brand new. And make sure your pool is equipt to handle the corrosiveness of salt water. There is a reason why the majority of the United States quit salting roads! good luck. But i have 2 eco matic salt systems on my route and they work fine. all salt systems require lots of acid.
