JHP Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I replaced my Polaris 280 pump motor twice. This pump is less than 2 years old. I only open my pool approx 9mths/yr so it doesn't get a ton of wear. The volute is leaking. Appears to be needing replacement. Seems like bearings need replacing??? Making a screaching noise from the volute housing? I'm new to this! Any ideas????? Quote
Pool Clown Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Where is the volute leaking from? Maybe post a pic? Screeching noise does sound like an impeller, did you replace the seal recently? When the pump runs dry and causes the seal to leak, it often melts the shoulder where the ceramic half of the seal sits (in the impeller) and will leak. Or that same heat can warp the impeller, causing the screech you hear when it hits the volute housing. Bearing noise will sound more like a growl than a screech. Quote
