I would like to change the color, slightly, of the plaster in my pool. as apposed to re-plaster ( about $3,000.00 ) I was wondering if staining the plaster a darker blue would work??? have spoken to the guy who is going to stain my coping; and he has said that he has never tried to stain a pool, but would be willing to try it ( for cost of materials only, about $150.00 )

Has anyone tried this?? or is this crazy??

I'm assuming he's proposing use of an acid stain - those are typically water-based so no issues there, but I don't know how well it will stand up to chlorine over a number of seasons. And I don't know what it will do to the integrity of your plaster. You could ask him, but it sounds like he won't know the answers, so you should do your research, lest you end up paying for the staining as well as an eventual re-plaster job, instead of simply having a colored plaster applied.
