Hayward 2 Speed Pumps

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if this question as already been asked and answered. My single speed pump recently went out so I wanted to switch to a 2 speed pump. I went to my local Leslie Pools store and after talking to the manager, I purchased a RS 1502 1.5 hp pump I have come to believe this is a brand modeled after the Tristar exclusively for Leslie's. I planned to install myself but due to circumstances could not. When the installer came out he said that he would have to install a manual switch box since it is a 2 speed ( I was led to believe it would be automatic) and for the 2nd hot since it is a 2 speed. I this correct? There are only 3 wires, black, red and white coming from the motor, this the same as my other pump. I've seached but can find anything on the web and the manual is worthless. Any help is greatly appreciated, as the installer is coming back tomorrow with the additional parts.
