MichaelF Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Hi all I live in South Florid and I just drained my very very green pool. It has not been running for 2 month as I had to have the tenant served with an eviction notice. I have one question on what is the best way to clean the diamond brite surface. It is 10 years old and it was cleaned with a pressure washer about 5 year ago by me. But some of the finish came off with the pressure washing, so what should I do? Quote
AFiremanFirst Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Don't pressure wash!!! dilute MA 50/50 to water, and pour it down the side walls, oh yeah where a mask. If you so desire follow that with liquid bleach! use the same pump you drained with to rid of this nasty water you'll have left! Scrub in between ma and bleach, and after bleach. Should be that easy! I often skip the bleach rinse, but it may give you piece of mind. Quote

If you so desire follow that with liquid bleach! Be sure to rinse well and neutralize any acid BEFORE rinsing with bleach unless you are looking for a novel way to kill yourself or are trying for a Darwin award! use the same pump you drained with to rid of this nasty water you'll have left! IF the only stains on the surface are algae stains then chlorine is often all that is needed. Each time you acid wash you remove some of the plaster and make the surface more porous so algae and other stains get a firmer hold next time. Acid washing is necessary with plaster pools (diamondbrite IS a plaster finish) but should be done as little as really needed to maximize the life of your finish. If there are also scale deposits or metal stains then you will need to acid wash. Quote
