I just installed a 1995 HOTSprings Tub from my neighbor. They gave me some basic instruction..."through a little of this in once a week and your good". You guys are freaking me out talking about all the potential nastiness that can be floating around in the water. I didn't realize I need a degree in chemical hottubology, TSP, CYI, FC, CYA holy smokes I have no idea what all this stuff is. I thinking of just pulling out my sawall and cuttin this thing up and taking it to the dump.

Is there an easy way for the layman to keep this thing safe for my kids and there friends? Is there a HotTub maintenance book 101 or Hot Tub for Dummies out there someone can recommend or a basic regiment for chemicals. How often should the filters be replaced? Are these things just more trouble than there worth?

Thanks in advance!

Read this, It's Nitro's approach to water maintenance:

Don't worry, this is a help forum, people are looking for solutions to problems with their spas. You don't hear from the thousands of happy soakers who enjoy their spas with no problems.

Get yourself a water test kit, or just buy some test strips at your local spa store. Then follow the advise in the link, it's really very easy.

People disparage the strips, but they work alright. I started with test strips and then switched to the Taylor test kit. I still had strips left over when I received my test kit. Just for fun, I tested my water with both the kit and the strips and the readings were the same.

A big help Dave...Thank you! I clicked a couple of links within the post regarding decontamination and chlorine demand. I've got enough reading to hold me for a while.

Thanks again
