jbiker1950 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Is there a difference in using Muriatic over Sulfuric acid in lowering ph? Thanks, chris Quote
chem geek Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 No, assuming you use the required amounts which differ slightly. However, using either dry acid (sodium bisulfate) or sulfuric acid will increase the sulfate level in your pool. With Muriatic Acid, this only increases the chloride (salt) level. High sulfate levels can be a problem for saltwater chlorine generator (SWG) systems and splash out of some sulfates such as magnesium sulfate can cause significant cracking in cement and stone materials (magnesium sulfate has a particularly high effective salt recrystallization pressure).
