cockerduchess Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I just purchased a new 18x48 5700 gallon above ground pool from intex. I filled it up a couple of weeks ago while filling it some of the water coming out was brown when the pool was finished filling you could see alot of brown on the bottom almost covering the entire floor I just thought it was sand so we ran the filter overnight very little was sticking to the filter so we turned the filter off and after a couple of hours the floor with covered in brown and stuff floating in the water called the city they said it was magnese? and iron so we emptied the pool and started over the water was perfectly clear this time while filling there was a tiny bit of brown on the bottom but you could only see it when the filter was off I haven't added anymore water but there is more brown stuff on the pool I checked the pool with the little dip sticks the test results were FC 0 pH 7.8 TA 80 TH 200 CYA 0 I also took it to a pool place and they said it looked ok I just needed to shock it. So I bought a shock from them and shocked the pool got up the next am FC 0 PH 7.5 TA 40 TH 200 CYA 0 I shocked it again per her instructions and checked it later that day the results were FC 0 PH 8.4 TA 120 TH 200 CYA 0 Sunday no pool store was open I checked around the internet and it sounded to me like it might be an algae so i purchased a shock with algae remover in it shocked with the whole 1 lb after this the brown turned a light tan color it will collect on the cartridge filter I just tested the water and the results were FC 2.4 pH 7.8 TA 80 TH 200 CYA 0 I have read on this forum that I'm probably loosing my chlorine because my CYA is 0 planing on going to get some stabilizer this afternoon. Am I doing the right things to correct this or is there something else I need to be doing there is a chance for flooding today should I wait to put anything else in the pool? Quote
cockerduchess Posted June 18, 2010 Author Report Posted June 18, 2010 Do you have well water? No we have city water Quote
cockerduchess Posted June 18, 2010 Author Report Posted June 18, 2010 We decided to empty the pool and start all over when we filled the pool this time we still had some brown in the bottom otherwise the pool looked crystal clear so we tested it, shocked it added conditioner & algacide we have kept the filter on 24 hours a day since we refilled, we put a pantyhose on the skimmer basket and it is catching small particles and the filter is turning brown so i assume it is cleaning up the stuff on the bottom. Several times a day i go stir up anything I can see on the bottom and it's almost all gone! this am I tested the pool and got readings of C 0 Ph 7.5 TA 40 TH 160 CYA ? I got one of the cheap drop tester are walmart and it only has 2 tests in it. I added some alkilinity plus ( I just bought this stuff before I found this great site and I hated to waste it) I will be going to the store for bleach in a few. Am I on the right track or did I totally mess it up? I was also wondering when you test your pool and things are off is there a certian order to adding chemicals? Thanks for any help Quote
