So about a month ago, I purchased a used spa from Craigslist. Immediately I filled it and turned it on, setting it to 100 to start, and had a spa tech add some chemicals (not sure what he put in, but it was chlorine based). After that we realized there was a problem with the topside control, and we weren't able to get the water above 98*. It took a few weeks, but recently that issue was recently resolved.

So, today I turned it back on after a few weeks of sitting cold. I've been left with a box of chemicals by the old owners of the spa, and have used a bottle o "chlor-aid" and put in the recommended amount for my size of tub. I put that in this afternoon, and that is the only chemical I put in.

So my question is primarily, is the spa safe to use tonight? I will probably go down to the pool supply store for some advice sometime this week but I'm really eager to start using it. Is there a really simple guide for a new spa owner somewhere?

I second the above recommendation! I've been following Nitro's method for six months now and I was a rookie like you. Read, re-read and follow it exactly and you will be thrilled.
