wsommariva Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 My tap water measures .1ppm for iron. I have a fiberglass pool with staining problems. Metal trap is a product that claims to remove iron from water. Question, is .1 ppm enough to worry about and does Metal trap work? Thanks Quote
chem geek Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 If it was just 0.1 ppm then that isn't enough to worry about, but with evaporation and refill whatever is in the tap water gets added to the pool water so the iron level can build up over time and become a problem somewhere above 0.3 ppm depending on pH. I don't know if metal trap works, but if it does then it would be safer to use if you are in an area with a lot of evaporation and not much rain overlow (which dilutes the water). Quote
wsommariva Posted May 29, 2010 Author Report Posted May 29, 2010 Thank you I'm going to buy it and see if it knocks down my tap water to zero. We get out water from the town's wells. In the 18th century they mined iron ore from my backyard, I'm surprised my iron isn't higher but maybe the town removes it. Quote
