rwhadley Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Anyone got experience with Zeosand? I have a sand filter and I was wondering if it was worth the extra cost to fill it with zeosand instead of regular silica. I know that all advertisements say zeosand is way better, but it is good enough to justify the cost difference? Quote
txpoolguy Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 My personal experience is limited with Zeosand, but I hear very good things from people who do use it. It's more expensive, but gives a far higher quality of filtration than sand. I've also heard that, after installing the Zeosand, you should start the filter in backwash, as it takes a LOT of rinsing to reduce the amount of initial dust that goes into the pool. Be sure to read up on which brand you use, as I don't think it's compatible with Baquacil & some other alternative sanitizers. Quote
Pathfinder Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 No zeosand is not worth the hassle. I will say out of the 100 or so filters i ve put it in 90 are back to either sand or ponied up for a cartridge. Most time i spent on initial backwash to remove the dust was 15 mins till it got clear. avg was 10min thats a lot of wasted water. Im a big fan a glass or if it sounds too strange order a slime bag the work really well. Quote

CHRIS-in-AZ Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Old post but figure Id share my experiences with Zeo 2 years ago I scooped all my silica out with a cup and a shop vac and replace with Zeosand. Started is up and backflushed once. Started it up on filter and boom! clouds stared coming out of my jets. So I filled and backflushed 5 times and ran for 48 hours to clear it back up, when it got clear it was astoundingly clear, with the light on at night I dont see fine particles in the water its way better than it was and better than my brothers cartridge filter pool. Just remember you may have to fill and backflush several times but when all is said and done it keeps the water crystal clear and after a storm it cleans the water faster too I love it and would do it again. It traps more dirt and stop chloramine formulation and prevent stinging of eyes. It is easy to use and it save water and energy. Quote
