I bought a house in Ozark Missouri, just south of Springfield and have been told by the inground simming pool dealers that you can not put a fiberglass pool in Missouri because the ground has so much rock and the rock is shifting all the time. Can this be true or do they just want me to buy a liner pool. One guy says he will sell me a pool that is acrylic and when I asked him to explain he said the sides are fiberglass with acrylic over them and then a cement bottom. If you are never to empty a pool after a few years how do you paint the cement bottom when it needs it? I have called dealers of Leisure pool in St Louis and they won't return my calls. With sales down you would think they would want my business.

Can someone please explain to me what kind of inground pool I can have. Thanks

Sandied,

A fiberglass pool is flexible to some extent and thus it will give and take with soil conditions. Concrete on the other hand is rigid and although with proper reinforcement it can take a certain amount of ground movement, it could fail (crack) with minor ground shifting. It sounds like the acrylic walls your pool builder is referring to are the perimeter wall sections of a vinyl liner pool. These wall sections do not extend down to the concrete floor in most cases. What he is telling you about not being able to put in a fiberglass pool in your area is not the truth. I think his banjo is wound too tight. Find somebody else. If Leisure is your fiberglass pool of choice and you can get no response from your local dealer, call the manufacturer direct.

Hello and Thank you for your post! The answer to your question is of coarse you can install a fiberglass pool in Missouri, in fact fiberglass will flex with any ground movement and with a fiberglass pool your maintenance is reduced greatly because they are less porous than other pools so it is harder for the algae to grow on the surface. I install all types of inground pools including vinyl liner pools and custom concrete pools and my own personal pool is a fiberglass pool made by Viking pools which is the Ocean Breeze model. If you need a great pool contractor call Midwest Pools at 877-450-7665 Midwest will make sure you get the best quality fiberglass pool at a great price.
