chem geek Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 How much 6% bleach should be added to a 13,300 gal. inground pool to "shock"? Thanks The answer depends on the Cyanuric Acid (CYA) level in your pool since a normal shock level is a Free Chlorine (FC) level that is 20% of the CYA level. You can use The Pool Calculator to calculate dosages and should read the Pool School to learn how to shock your pool (that's one of the articles). Generally, if you properly maintain your FC level relative to the CYA level, then you hardly ever need to shock the pool. Every 96-ounce (3/4 gallon) jug of 6% bleach added to 13,300 gallons of water would raise the FC by 3.5 ppm. Quote

I due to leave town for a few days and wanted to make sure the chem bal would not go haywire. I will attend the pool school when I return. Quote
