Hello:

We recently set up our first pool (18ft x 4 ft) and filled it with our well water. The first day when we filled it, the water was clear and we could see the bottom. However, after sitting overnight, the water the next day was cloudy and had a brownish/orangish tint. I know that we have IRB (iron reducing bacteria) in our water, so I am assuming this is the issue. But, how can we get rid of it? We did our initial chlorine shock of the pool, and it didn't seem to do anything. Right now the filter is getting clogged up with the orange slime from IRB, which we have been cleaning and putting back in. But, after a couple of days the water is still just as bad.

Thanks in advance!!

If the filter is clearing out gunk, there's a good chance it can clear most or all of the color. It's possible the initial shock didn't kill everything, if you do have bacteria; try to keep the chlorine level up until you don't lose any overnight.
