mozdaman Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 Greetings, I have had my Aquarite Chlorine generator for about 8 years. I have replace the cell 2 times. Other than that, I have enjoyed the unit and would not go with putting chlorine in my pool for nothing. Last week I went out and looked at the pool and noticed a lttle mustered algea. I looked at the aquarite and the power light was not on. I turned the system off and then turned it back on. The no flow light blinked for about 1 minute (normal) then the generating light came on for about 10 seconds then everything went off. After much time spent on research and troubleshooting, I found the quarter size black disc (current limiting diode) was cracked and open. I ordered a new one and replaced it. BINGO, bak up and running for $2.50. My question is, the diode gets extremely hot (too hot to touch) . Does anybody know if this should get that hot? Thanks!!! Quote

elceser Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 My story is the same. Approx. 8 years in service. Blown current inflow thermistor ($2.50 + shipping). I replaced this morning. The unit comes on, but goes out on low salt (2200). Pool store read 2600 ppm. I added enough for 400 ppm. Second store reads 3000 ppm. Is your salt reading OK? I'll tell you if it's hot, when I get it to stay on. I assume that it's going to be hot/warm to the touch. I understand that it's a thermistor and opens on the heat generated from high amp draw. Yes they get hot and are suppose to Quote
Bugman1400 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 Current limiting diodes often act as a voltage or current regulator. If the circuit contains too much current or voltage the excess is turned into heat or routed to ground. If the heat method is used often there is a heat sink. Quote
Pool Clown Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 My question is, the diode gets extremely hot (too hot to touch) . Does anybody know if this should get that hot? Yes those get hot... normally. Quote
