vic1 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I am looking to replace my Natural Gas Heater & Filter on my inground pool (size is 25X43 free form) & would like to know which is the best. Was looking at Starite 400HD heater & possibly a Starite 3 DE with the Mod. filter or a Hayward Pro Grid DE filter. I have sand now & it takes 2 weeks to clear my pool when we open it. Thank You for any help. Quote
Pathfinder Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Getting up in that size I would say Raypak is the best IMO. Considering if you were looking at commercial boilers for say a hotel or w/e Raypak is always at the top. Quote
Pool Clown Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 What type and size of pump do you have. Two weeks to clear a pool may not be entirely the filters fault. Quote

If so if you live in a warmer climate a heat pump my be considered. If you heat once in a while then a gas heater will do. When is the last time the sand was changed in the filter? Most sand is only good for about 3 years. If you want to try a sand change first, find a store with Mystic White sand. It cost a little more but is a better product then cheap sand with fillers in it. If you want to switch to DE I like the Hayward Pro Grid over the Sta-rite Quote
txpoolguy Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 The Hayward ProGrid is simpler to break down & clean, better water flow rates with the DE740 valve. Make sure you size the filter properly for your existing pump. Raypak heater is a good bet. Quote
