Anyone use Acis Magic to lower PH, and/or other acid tasks? Any luck with it?

Thanks

According the MSDS here the product is hydrochloric acid plus other special ingredients so is essentially a form of Muriatic Acid. According to this link a buffer has been added which probably raises the effective pH while lowering the effective hydrochloric acid concentration thereby making it more safe and fume less.

It would be good to know what buffer was used as essentially you will be adding a lot of it to your water. The buffer is clearly one that acts mostly as an acid at pool/spa pH and since this is also used for etching, the buffer is a relatively "strong" weak acid with a fairly low pKa, perhaps something like oxalic acid or phosphoric acid, but that's a guess on my part. For a spa, it's probably fine to use. For a pool, I'd be concerned if the buffer were phosphoric acid as there is no sense in increasing phosphate levels in a pool (it's an algae nutrient).

Hi Chem Geek,

Thanks for replying.

I'll try dry acid first, but if I have high PH problems, I might try Acid Magic, before Muriatic Acid. It looks like a good solution for spas. But like you said, I'm curious to know what else is in it.
