DjPiLL Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Ok I received my Epic on July 8th. I obviously want to do a water change sometime in December before the freezing weather gets here. So should I do a water change now and then do one in December? Should I just wait till December? So far my water chemistry hasn't been that big of a deal. Water is clear. If anything I have had trouble keeping my PH and Total Alkalinity up, but that isn't that difficult to correct. The only other issue is I notice that my water occasionally gets "soapy". Like the bubbles that form in the tub when the jets are on look a little soapy. Any easy way to correct this? What do you guys think? Quote
jeffr72 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Hi, What I have done to deal with the suds is put the jets on high and scoop for several minutes, clean the filters and shock the water. For water change, there is a suggested rule of thumb. Spa size (in gallons) divided by 3. This number divided by the number of bathing hours per day = Number of days for a water change. Hope this helps. jeff Quote

Hillbilly Hot Tub Posted September 8, 2008 Report Posted September 8, 2008 Being that it is a brand new tub, if you have never changed the water, I would do it sooner than later. New tubs have oils in the plastics that are released in the first month or 2. They will create foam and scum lines and begin to be a royal pain in the butt. Most new tub owners change their water in the first month or two of ownership. You will love the fresh water feel anyway! Quote

Ok ill probably change it this weekend then since I want to do a water change in December that would last me through the winter. My wife threw some of the spa defoamer in before I got home yesterday and it seemed to have made a difference. But you are right it probably should be changed. I have two questions, in my Marquis Epic I have the washable two filters. Can I throw these in my dishwasher and just do a rinse cycle (no soap) to get them nice and cleaned? I tried hosing them down a few weeks ago. It looked like it helped get some of the yellow off, but I think dishwasher would be more effective. Also anything else I should be aware of when changing my water? I guess I have to cut the power. Will this water damage my grass? Should I remove my Bromine cartridge a day or two before draining? Hillbilly Hot Tub Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Foam down will stop the issue, but it is very temporary. It does not remove what is causing the foam. It creates a tension on the surface of the water so foam can not be formed, but it does not last long. If you use the dishwasher make sure you also do not have jet dry or any product like that. I would rinse the filters first with the hose and add filter cleaner or bleach to the dishwasher. You must shut the power off as you said, and on some tubs when refilling if you put the hose into the filter area it might prevent air locks in the pumps. If the bromine level is not high and the ph is not way out of whack it won't hurt the grass. Some people swear bromine helps their fruit trees grow?!? Quote
