BryceA Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Hi folks. I'm new to the spa world. Little background info. My wife and I are in the process of looking for a spa. Last year we had a 700 sf deck built off the back of the house. We had the contractor build 1 portion of the deck to withstand the weight of a spa. I have Thermospa coming in next week to give an estimate on a 4 person spa. I've read the pro's and con's of Thermospa and found a few websites devoted to bashing them. I'm almost positive thermospa will be out of my budget. Ideally I would like a softsided tub, but I'm willing to look at other spa's out there. We would like 110v hookup, so this is why we are looking at softsided spa's unless there are hard sided spa's with 110 hookup. Any recomendations or places to start looking. We live in Tolland County, CT. 30 mins east of hartford. Thank you Bryce Quote
cplarsen Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 There are quite a few tubs that'll run on 110v. The price you pay with 100v is usually the heater doesn't work when the jets are running. Why a soft side anyway? You planning on moving it often? Btw, give craigslist a try. You might find something better. Quote

Thank you Bryce There are many companies that carry 110v units and many of those are convertable units, meaning they could be switched over to 220v in the future. Both lines we carry have 110v units. I would have to suggest, being a sevice company and working on Thermo spas, to try to look at other lines. The soft sidded tubs are also not what they are cracked up to be and you may be very dissapointed. Are you looking for a spa that you are going to keep long term, or move it a lot? Look around, you can find many hard sided spas that will last you longer, cost close to the same as a soft tub and I think you would be happier with it. Bear in mind that a 110v model will not have many jets and has a smaller pump to be able to run it on 110v. It also takes much longer for the water to heat since it is a 1.5 kw heater instead of a 5.5kw heater. Quote

Since you are a service rep, what brands do you like to go and work on and what brands do you hate to work on? What brand do you recommend for a 110v hard sided spa? Can you recommend any dealers in Conn that have qualified Quote
Chas Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Any recomendations or places to start looking. Most major name brands have smaller 110v units. That is where I would begin. Quote
Webini Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 HotSpring Jetsetter would be my pick. Runs on 110v and converts to 220v. http://www.hotspring.com/Spa_Showroom_Hot_..._jetsetter.html Quote
