  1. It is definitely DE. After vacuuming the DE does not immediately recycle back to the pool ... at least it is not visible through the turbulence. The water does not get cloudy and there is probably less than 2 cups of DE buildup on the pool bottom. The DE shows up after the next pump cycle. I inspected the manifold very closely and thoroughly cleaned and inspected the grids also ... no problem found.
  2. I've got diatomaceous earth dunes building up on the bottom of my pool. I have taken apart the Hayward D.E. filter and replaced all the o-rings. I also inspected all the grids for rips and tears and found nothing wrong. I also made sure that the manifold was secured tightly to the grids. After I vacuum out the sand dunes in the bottom of the pool, they will reappear again the next day. Does anyone have any idea how the D.E. can be sneeking out of the filter?
  3. When I line the pump up with the drain, I get zero water circulation (it works fine when lined up with the skimmer). However, if I stick a hose into the drain line next to the pump, whilst standing on the drain cover I can feel water flowing out of the drain over my toes. So how is it possible that water will only flow in one direction in the drain pipe? Is this one of those world mysteries like UFOs or Bigfoot? Thx, Hal
  4. I have had numerous pool plasterers come out and give me an estimate. Mostly the quotes for replastering the pool are pretty much the same. However, when I ask about a light blue colored plaster the estimate goes up almost 80%. I am pretty sure that the existing plaster coat on my pool doesn't contain an additional "diamondkote" or some other mysterious additive and it lasted more than 20 years. So far my choices are a) white or pay $1000 more for another color. Years ago, there was no additional charge for colorizing the plaster ... the builder just gave you a choice of colors and then went ahead and did his job. Are modern day plasterers no longer able to mix a pigment into the plaster, or is just a scheme to increase profits.
