  1. I moved from NJ where we had a salt water pool, and a sense and dispense acid feeder. We loved the salt water feel of the water, and reduced chlorine. We did have some issues with the acid generator and maintaining pH though, and it was somewhat caustic on the pool coping and concrete deck. Now we have moved to California, and in the process of finalizing a pool build as well as the sanitizer. The pool will be an in-ground, gunite with a pebble tec sheen finish. We have a son with asthma and want to minimize the chlorine. Several pool builders are recommending a paramount ozone generator, UV system and in-line chlorinator. Anyone have feedback on this type of configuration ? Thanks !
  2. Hi Scott - So the majority of dog hair will backwash out ? I heard of some people getting a special filter bag for the skimmer ? Are there commercial products ? Are there any filters that I can attach to my garden hose when adding water from my well, for any rust and calcium ? Thanks
  3. Any recommendations on robotic pool cleaners for a 16x44 inground fiberglass pool ? Or what to look for ?
  4. Hi everyone - Looking for the best, or least better pool filter to use if you have a dog swimming in the pool ? Thanks -
  5. I have done a little more investigation and glass media has been used in water filtration, including drinking water, for a number of years. Also found a few papers from universities on testing and value of glass over sand.
  6. It is in noth west nj in hunterdon county facing south
  7. I am getting a new pool with a small integrated spa, and one of the decisions is a heat pump versus a gas heater. I know the trade off is time to bring the pool to temperature versus efficiency. If I were to buy the heat pump, i assume i have to leave it on and let it maintain the temperature over the season, while i could use the gas heater only on the days I am using the pool. So while the heat pump is more efficient, it will need to be "on" more often than the more effective gas heater - The heat pump will cost substantially more, but this is nearly offset by the cost to install the gas line. Anyone have experience with a heat pump, and their satisfaction with bringing to pool up to temperature ?
  8. I was interested in upgrading my pool package from a Sand Filter to Cartridge, and my pool contractor suggested another option to be adding glass media to a Sand filter. While I would still need to backwash the filter, it would be effective down to 2-3 microns. I haven't been able to find too much information on this type of setup, anyone have any experience with this, or suggestions ?
  9. Thanks for the info, so is the SALT Generator less work to maintain than traditional clorinators and mineral cartridges ? Some of the posts reference needing add substantial levels of acid for the pH ? And there seems to be increased "hype" on the web from new companies with "eco-friendly" products that indicate that certain counties in California wont permit SALT systems. Not sure there is any validity in that, but I could see that back-washing a SALT pool could eventually lead to increased levels of salt in the ground soil. And it seems that mineral cartridges (Silver not Copper) could reduce the amount of chlorine used in the pool, but how do you ensure that you have enough chlorine ?
  10. I am buying a fiberglass pool and trying to decide on the best sanitizer that is pet friendly. I have a black lab who inherently swallows a fair amount of water while in the pool. I realize that the salt generators produce chlorine, but at lower levels than a traditional clorinator. But are the salt and chlorine levels safer for a dog than traditional chlorine and mineral (copper/silver) ? The mineral cartridge based systems, such as Frog, are supposed to purify the water, but still require some levels of chlorine for sanitation. At first, I was going to pursue this approach, but I have not been able to find enough information to convince me. Any advice or guidance on the best sanitation and safest for dogs ?
