  1. I ended up draining the spa tonight because the water was so cloudy. I should've taken a picture. There was calcium everywhere...coated on the walls and deposits of it on the seats. I cleaned, refilled and did my quickest balance to date. Then I added some Gentle Spa that I got from a local store. It smells good and it didn't turn my water cloudy! Now I just have to wait for my sanitizer to come down to acceptable levels. It's been a week since I last used it and that's too long.
  2. I bought a 2006 Genesis model and so far so good. I've never had to repair anything on it.
  3. Ahh, I see. I didn't know there was a difference between that and Gentle Spa that Nitro recommends. I suppose adding the calcium is what's causing the cloudy water. I'll keep hosing off my filter and see if that takes care of it. Thanks!
  4. Sandi, I had the exact same thing happen over the weekend. I tried a pH hold product for the first time and it threw my balance out of whack and made the water cloudy. Oddly enough, I added calcium to bring the CH up to 160 ppm. Then within 24 hours, it was down to 120, so I added more calcium and now it's down to 90. I'm done foolin' with that part, but I still haven't resolved the cloudy water issue. I cleaned the filter and added Seaclear, but no luck. Bottome line: I too will never use a pH hold product again.
  5. I've tried 3 different brands of liquid scents and they all created foam. I use crystals once in a while and they seem to be much better, although they don't have as good of scent choices.
  6. And then a follow up question....am I better off buying a UV model instead of a CD?
  7. I've had a CD ozonator for about 10 months and I noticed that the light doesn't come on during the filter cycle anymore. I've heard that the light will stay on even if it's not producing ozone, say if it's 4 years old. Is my unit shot, or do I just need a new CD chip?
  8. My GFI kept tripping last summer, and it ended up being the GFI itself. So it cost me $100 (ouch) for a new 50a GFI and it has worked ever since.
  9. I can answer a few of these as my hot tub is in my garage. 1. I think all you really need is the electrical inspection. 2. If you live in a cold climate, make sure the steam can escape. I open 2 windows and it makes a big difference. That should be all you need for ventilation. Again, in cold climates your tools will rust in the winter with the steam. I cover everything up in plastic bags. I do have a ceiling fan a foot from the edge of the tub....It's nice in the summer, but you could get a floor-standing fan and it would be cheaper. As for plumbing, I guess just make sure you have a long enough hose to fill it. 3. I know I sound like a broken record, but....if you live in a cold climate, get a forced-air propane heater. It REALLY cuts down on the steam, and it warms up the garage at the same time. I got one off Craigslist for $60 4. I'm not sure. I haven't done anything and I've never had a problem.
  10. It could be your shell. I bought a new cover in December and I have steam coming out because my tub's base isn't completely flat (it's over the drain incline in my garage) and therefore the top of the shell isn't completely flat. It droops in one corner. This spring I'll have to move it over some.
  11. I bought a 2 year old, $7000 tub for $1300 and it has worked perfectly for the 7 months that I've had it. So, yes there are good deals out there if people are desperate to sell.
  12. InSpaRation scents have caused foaming for me in the past, so I switched to crystals like Spazzaz. The aromas aren't as good, but there's zero foam. I do use Sea Klear once a week or so, and the water is very clear still. The crystals have softening salts which do make a difference to how my skin feels when I get out.
  13. I found someone that moves pool tables and hot tubs on Craigslist. Cost me $200, but well worth it. They had to move it from the backyard and up a hill at the seller's home.
  14. Tell the kids to quit washing dishes in the hot tub!
  15. This is the one I have http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/sto...ct_6970_792_792 It drains 350 gallons in about 40 minutes. Funny that it says 1320 GPH. Maybe it's less with a hot tub because it has to pump the water up and over the side?
