  1. Little update. Woke up this morning to Sb code on the display. According to the manual this would mean Sensor B is malfuctioning. Should I just go ahead and order a new sensor, or am I missing something?
  2. I own a Spatec (IST) spa that uses Balboa 500z pack (VS? I think). I left on holiday for two weeks. On my return the display indicated HH (Overheat). Water was cool as I think the spa shut itself down and cooled down. I reset the breaker, ran the jets and was getting Sn code (sensors out of balance) alternating with the temperature with jets running. After about an hour the jets would turn off (no heating at all) and a flashing Sn code. I tried reseting it a few times. Now all I get is the HH code when powering on the spa (water is not at all hot) and no other action. I know the heater has two sensors and I figure at least one is shot. Is there a way for me to test the sensors so I know if one is bad (resistance measurement?) any input or ideas would be very much appreciated. The manufacturer is no longer in business, and the place I bought it from went bankrupt as well.
  3. Anybody on this forum know what happened to Spatec (or Innovative Spa technologies company. I can't seem to reach them and someone posted on their facebook page that they were bought by Emerald spas. Any truth to this?
  4. Crazing......Thank you that's exactly what it is (after googling crazing it seems to be the same type of cracks) The spa tech is coming over for an unrelated issue so I'll have him take a look at it. Thanks all.
  5. I've had my spa for a little under 1 year and noticed some little hairline cracks on one of the corners of the spa shell. I can't actually feel the cracks but I can see how they developed under the clear coat(?) finish. They don't seem to pose any problem since water doesn't touch this part of the spa, but I'm afraid they will become more important and spread. Should this concern me. Should I contact my dealer or just leave it alone. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/picture001qg.jpg/
  6. I bought one of these from Brookstone a few years back http://www.bzzagent.com/bzzscapes/scape/brookstone/brookstone-boom-bucket/ Has a huge rechargeable battery, remote, and keeps your IPOD secure so it won't get wet. There are waterproof buttons on the outside which will control the Ipod's functions. Pretty decent stereo sound (not sure if its 100% waterproof but is water resistant. I'm not sure if Brookstone still sells these, but I'm sure they can be hed for pretty cheap on ebay.
  7. I am presently running Nature2/Dichlor(powder) as the sanitation method in my spa. We will be leaving on vacation for 1 week and can't get anyone to add dichlor to keep up a decent chlorine level. I have some left over Trichlor tablets and a floater (from before my PoolSpaForums days). I know trichlor tabs are not the greatest for spas, (thank you Forum people)but I figured popping a couple a the floater for the week should prevent my water from getting ugly? I also figure I'd keep the temp setting down to 80. Anyone see any problem with this?
  8. There is no way that spa is worth anything close to 12000$. I wouldn't even pay 3000 for that spa. I purchased a Four Winds Oahu in August 2008 for 5000 Canadian (exchange rate at that time was 0.94 which would be 4700$ U.S.) I specifically recall that the Maui was exactly the same price (specs are the same except for the fact that the Maui has a lounger). My spa developed a crack which was due to an improper acrylic application only 2 years later. Four winds customer service is zero. I spent countless hours trying to reason with these wankers with no success. I'm so glad my spa was replaced with another brand. Red flags should come up when any company inflates their MSRP this much. Besides the spa was super loud (I could tell the filter cycle was starting from bed), and the tacky waterfalls and disco light shows got old after the first month.
  9. In this case what is "standard practice" in the industry is irrelevant. What is relevant is the specific consumer protection laws in your province (Alberta). I had a similar situation recently where my 2 year old spa (which developed a crack) was replaced with a brand new spa (by a different manufacturer). My "new" spa is treated as such and comes with a full new spa warranty. Mind you the consumer protection laws are very strict where I live (Quebec). In your case I would call the consumer protection office and ask what the law is concerning this situation. No matter what the manufacturer says their policy is, the have to abide by the the local laws.
  10. I don't know if your spa has an Economy mode (EC) or not, if it does you can keep it in economy mode so that the spa only heats during filter cycles. On my spa (and I think most)the first filter cycle begins almost as soon as you power up the spa and the second is 12 hours later. Ideally you would want to plan your filter cycle to end just before the time you usually use the spa. In my case I usually use the spa at 9 P.M. before bed. I plan for the spa to filter and heat between 6:30 and 8:30 (a.m and p.m) so that when I go in at 9 it is at the exact temperature that I want it. If you can time it this way to take advantage of lower rates (even if its for only 1 filter cycle) you should be able to save money.
  11. Anyone care to share what exactly it is that this company did or is accused of doing?
  12. I have tried both (bromine tabs and chlorine). The bromine caused my skin to be a little itchy after using the spa (even after a shower) even though I don't have sensitive skin at all. Another thing I also noticed with bromine is that the bromine smell was harder to get off my body after showering. The main advantage I see to bromine is that if you're lazy and forgetful it pretty much takes care of itself. Just put a bunch of tabs in a floater. I'm on my second day of my nature2 trial and so far it looks promising. New spa also has ozone so hopefully I could get away with using less.
  13. I see 2 slots tabs...don't understand exactly what I'm supposed to do with those I can't seem to move the housing (screwed in place to the side of the spa). Thanks for all your responses. If all else fails i guess I'll just throw it in the skimmer basket. I guess the whole purpose of this thing is that the water flow through it during a filter cycle.
  14. Seem to have hit a snag with a Nature2 cartridge I had purchased for another spa. My other spa had an open type filter where you can adjust the height of the cartridge and slip it down. I never installed it in my old spa since I noticed a crack in the shell so it had to be replaced by another model spa (long story). The new spa (IST) has a different system....square skimmer with a flap that opens. My question is....can I just place the Nature2 cartridge in the skimmer basket? The new filter is the screw on type and a little smaller than the other. Its a chore just to get the filter in their and screwed on (very limited space).I cannot for the life of me get it in their with the cartridge>
  15. It`s funny that you replied to this thread today. In fact we just received our new spa yesterday, had it hooked up today and filled it with water. The new spa we chose is an IST VX600. We actually had a choice between a few IST and L.A. spas models, but had no choice but to go with the IST. We chose the IST because we could not go bigger than 84x84 inches. It has been exactly 2 months since I first noticed the crack....so the whole process did take longer than expected. I got shuffled between so many people that my head is still spinning....but alas our dealer came through for us and was able to replace our spa with what seems to be a comparable model with similar size and features (it may even be superior to our Four Winds but that remains to be seen) I`m not sure who to blame in this whole ordeal, but Four Winds really dropped the ball on this one. I wanted my spa replaced with the exact same one I had purchased originally (mainly due to the space constraints and the fact that I actually liked it) and that four winds respect their warranty obligations. They failed to do this and every time I called to speak to the manager, he promised to call the dealer and work things out (never happened). At one point (this was while I was waiting for "authorization" for a new spa from my dealer) I asked Four Winds to just ship me a new spa and pick up the old one. They told me that I would have to get my own customs broker to handle this for me......BS. At the end of the day, the spa cracked because of a defect in workmanship. Four Winds should have taken responsibility and stood by their product. A lot of people on these forums like to beat down on Costco`s spas but I can assure you that Costco would never jerk anybody around like Four Winds did to me. I would have loved to have gotten my product refunded and start over from scratch. So far the new spa seems like a decent product. I plan to post a more complete review (from a non spa expert) after I have experienced it more. I have been hard pressed to find reviews on IST spas (which now seems to go by the name SpaTec???) So far the casement seems to be very sturdy (one piece plastic) so it shouldn`t rot. There seems to be less jets than in the four winds, but more seem to be adjustable. The spa pack seems similar to the other (Balboa VS). The one downside that I have seen so far is the control panel which in trying to be simplistic...is too complicated. It wouldn`t have broken the bank too much to put in a panel with an up and down key to control the temperature setting instead of having to repeatedly push the 1 temp key. The fact that IST cannot be contacted by phone (website has only email option) is not impressive at all. I`ll keep posting with my experience with my new IST VX600 spa.
