  1. I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or add onto one of the stickies... I'm wanting to get a game plan together before the hot tub arrives and we do our first fill. The Taylor kit arrived today so I analyzed our the water out of our hose (no filter). FC = 1.2 ppm pH = 7.0 TA = 40 ppm CH = 30 ppm It looks like we have low TA and low CH. But I don't have much background for comparison. If we were to follow Nitro's startup procedure, then I have some questions with the first few steps. First question - do we do these startup steps with the cold water in the tub before it's heated, or do we wait until it comes up to temp? This is probably a stupid question, but I don't want to screw it up. Step 1 - Balance TA. Should we increase TA in this step by adding baking soda? How high? 50 ppm? 80 ppm? Or leave it alone and move on to step 2? Step 2 - Aerate until pH is 7.4-7.8. Got it. Step 3 - Test Calcium. Should we increase CH to closer to 100 ppm? 150 ppm? The rest seems pretty straight forward (for now). Thanks!
  2. It was never wet tested, but assuming there may be dust, adhesives, etc from the the manufacturing process and storage. Just not sure if that warrants using Ahh-some and then super chlorination. ETA: Or do you mean from when they test each tub to ensure it meets QA/QC specs? And not the wet-testing that customers can do in the showroom?
  3. Nevermind, I think I found my answer. In Nitro's "Dichlor/bleach Method in a Nutshell" post it says that for new spas to do the first water change after a month, and then move to water changes every 6 months. True?
  4. We have a new Jacuzzi coming to the house in about 2 weeks. I've been reading everything I can on here to get a good understanding of how to maintain the tub. We plan on using the Dichlor/bleach method once we get it up and running. The Taylor K-2006 is already in the mail. All of that makes sense to me (right now). But one thing I'm not clear on is whether we need to do a decontamination right off the bat, or is that only necessary for used tubes? If we do need to do a decon, should it be in two steps (1 - Ahh-some, 2 - super chlorinate) or do we just need to do one or the other? Thanks!
  5. We are in the market for what we consider to be a mid-range hot tub ($6-8k). It will mostly be 2 adults and 1 child using the tub, maybe 3x/week. We like to soak, jets aren't as important, we don't want a lounger or stereo. Closest and highest rated dealers are Hot Springs and Jacuzzi. Below is what we have looked at, in no particular order. We are unable to wet test these, as the dealers only have the higher ends filled up for that. Are the prices off-base? Each comes with delivery, standard cover, and pool chemicals. Will try to negotiate lift and/or steps if it makes sense. Should we be concerned with only a 2yr warranty (hubby is handy but we don't want a money pit)? What else should we consider? What are your thoughts/recommendations? 1) Hot Springs Hot Spot, Tempo - $6k. 2yr warranty. Seems like the seats might be too reclined and not much foot room. Don't like the color options available to us. Not our top choice. 2) Hot Springs Highlife, Prodigy - $7500. 5yr warranty. Same issue with the slope of the seats. 3) Jacuzzi J-245 - $6k. 2yr warranty. Loved the seats during the dry test. Top contender. 4) Jacuzzi J-345 -$8.5k. 5yr warranty. Maybe not quite as comfy as the 245, but hard to tell from only a dry test. Over budget.
