  1. I live in Tennessee use a mesh cover and close my pool each winter. It is still really dirty opening the pool but it is the best thing going that I know of. Boobies comment - too funny!
  2. Have you tried using a pool vac to suction the debris out your waste line. The brown sand substance might be too small for the filter to pick up and it is recirculating it back into your pool.
  3. I would check the test button on the 30A gfci to make sure it trips. Also inspect the gfci neutral wire connections to make sure they are connected properly. The equipment side neutral terminates on the breaker and the neutral wire factory connection on the breaker terminates on the electrical panel neutral buss. If your motor is not running it might not be actually drawing 50 Amps. A direct short to ground sends a large amount of current to ground and will trip the breaker. I replaced my motor last year for the same problem and I don't think my breaker tripped either. The motor was just locked up and wouldn't move making a humming noise. Just my opinion.
  4. If the filters laterals are broken inside it will allow sand to blow back through the returns. I would start by taking the filter apart and removing the sand to see if you can find the problem. You mentioned it is an older filter so someone else here might have a better answer.
  5. I am sure one of the pro's here will have a better answer but here is my take on it. I personally don't see it as a good idea. First your pool is going to create an incredible amount of algae. Your water will basically sour and will turn into a pond with creatures mosquito's ect.. living in your back yard. Your liner or what ever kind of pool you have will also suffer from the pool water imbalance. It is difficult enough opening a pool after a single winter much less two with a hot summer in between. I don't see it as a good idea at all but that is my personal opinion. I think I would consider filling in the pool and doing away with it altogether before I would have that kind of problem sitting in my backyard. Just my thoughts!!
  6. Lite2 Pool and Spa Heater, Model LJ 400,000 BTU Propane - Is this pool heater reliable and can it heat a 18x36 Inground Pool? Also can it be converted to NG? I found one that is used for $500.00
  7. One other question... I have read here on the forum that replacing the light can cause leaks in the niche. Is this something I need to be concerned about? I have a working 500w light. Am I better off to leave well enough alone. We have a 4th of July party coming up and my thoughts are the LED light would really look good for the event. If anyone has experience with LED's good or bad I would be interested in hearing about them. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  8. My pool has one of those dome shaped 500W lights installed in the deep end wall. Everything I have seen is in the $500.00 range. That is just more than I would like to spend on a light. What are my options for LED replacements? Any suggestions?
  9. I can go outside at night sit and watch creatures crawl across the concrete deck running towards the pool. Some worms but mostly centipedes. They go directly to the edge and jump in.
  10. Clean the threads VERY CLEAN to remove any sand to avoid thread damage. When you start to screw the top back on make sure it is straight, do not cross thread it. I think you could apply just a little wd-40 to the threads to reduce the friction. Someone else might have an issue with the wd-40. Your goal is to screw the two pieces together without damaging the fiberglass threads.
  11. The frogs will be found floating, stiff, and spinning in your skimmer baskets.

  13. Thanks Pool Guy your advice. I never thought about totally replacing the filter sand, opening the pool backwashing ect..., and then removing and replacing the top layer of sand to remove the winter crud. That sounds like excellent advice. Are you anywhere up close to Point Pleasant Beach NJ? My daughter in law is from that area. Again thank you!!
  14. I would recommend researching deck framing and local building codes before I made any decision. When we installed our tub we did the following. Specifically For the hot tub we installed 6x6 posts outside each corner of my tub to create a deck box 8x8 banded together for the tub to sit on. My entire lower deck is 16x14 built on 6x6 posts, I would never recommend building a deck on 4x4's. To further brace the tub we placed two more vertical 6x6's in concrete then spanned a horizontal 6x6 wedged between the top of the vertical posts and the 2x8 floor joists. We used truss type mesh braces to tie the 6x6's together. It might be overkill but my tub is 10' in the air. The cost of the additional bracing is minimal compared to the damage or injuries the tub would cause if it fell. Also if you ever sell your home you want to be sure the home inspector doesn't find an issue with the decking.
