Diverter Valves Pop And Some Jets Not Working

Recommended Posts

I know nothing about tubs however I'm a jack of all trades and master of non. I Was recetly given a 2002 artic spa model Summit Elite. I was told that the pump is going out and the heater didn't work so I brought it home and started into bringing this thing to life. The first thing I did was replace the SINGLE original pump with a new one from www.hottubwarehouse.com. it's a waterway executive 56 pump 4hp 240v. It is the exact pump that was take off. I installed the pump and filled the tub. Turned on pump on low and it pumps only the jets that are closest to the pump are pumping water. In addition to that, the filter seems to be taking in 90% of the water and the two lower intakes don't seem to be taking much in at all. There is actually a vortex above the filter when the pump is running on low. Alot of water is coming out of the lowest large jet at the bottom of the tub and the YES all the other jets are turned on by turning the outer flange on the ones that you can turn on or off. tiny air bubbles are coming from the jets that are turning on.

The second problem I have is 2 of the 5 diverter valves keep popping off when i turn the pump on high wihch makes for a funny and wet situation. The two diverter valvles that keep popping off are 2" and one is close to the pump and the other is oposite side of the pump. ive tried turning them and still only one section of jets work and when i do turn the diverter valves it will increase the air bubbles coming out of the only section of jets that are working. I DO think that I will have to replace the diverter valves because I believe that they are just too brittle and won't stay threaded.

FYI all valves are opened as I have check them more than twice. I did try and bleed the pump by loosening the output flange for like 3 minutes while the pump was running. Keep in mind that this tub set empty for 2 yrs with the cover on and I trailered it for about 90 miles to get it home. when I turned on the pump it did pump out trash, I have cleaned my filter twice with water. I DID NOT fill the tub through the filter housing.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Any tub that has set for two years, should have all the jets removed, and the lines back flushed, at some point before puting the tub into service. Are you sure you have 5 Diverters, not two Diverters, and 3 Air controll valves? You will notice that the diverters float, and are not secured to the tub except bt the cap where the handle is. Most likly the flex line has shrunk, and the diverter has droped, not giving you enough threds to keep the cap on. If you were to grab the diverter from under the tub, you would most likly find that you can push it up through the hole, and get more threds. Often one of the whirlpool jets is also a diverter, have you looked into this possibility? Probably not since you have 5 diverters at the spaside. You can remove the jets by turning them past the open stop point, then pulling. Use the first part that comes out ass a tool to remove the mixer. If you need more help let me know, I can tell you what kind of diverter, and jets you have, I have an Artesion siting right next to me.
