Pump Replacement, Should I Use Teflon?

Recommended Posts

I am replacing a sundance spa 2 speed pump and was wondering if i should use teflon paste on the wet end of the pump ( male threads ) when i am tightening the pvc nut. i can't find it mentioned anywhere but it seems that it would lessen the chance of a leak. or is this a bad idea?

O-rings can be lubed, but gaskets should be clean and dry- it depends on what yours has. Also, no need to use teflon or lube on the pump union threads- it's a compression fitting, the threads are meant to tighten the O-ring- the threads are NOT waterproof, nor are they meant to be- that's the job of the O-ring or gasket.
