  1. I spent over $200 on this thing and it is nothing but junk. The reel bows in the middle when the cover is on it. The cranks come out of the base when I am trying to turn the crank to reel the cover in. I am so disgusted. That is a lot of money to spend and not have the product do the job. I am calling my pool dealer tomorrow morning to complain about it. If he doesn't take the thing back and refund my money, he is loosing a good customer who will never recommend him to anybody ever again. I went to the product website to complain but it does not have a link to contact them with problems.
  2. I have the same heater. Our heater burners would not stay lit and the service guy took it apart and tried everything. He did end of changing the thermostat, which fixed the problem finally. It lit this year and has not caused a problem yet. It cost me $185 for part and labor.
  3. We finally got our pool uncovered, the water was clear, the pump, filter and heater worked, and got the steps in the pool. After we all jumped in last night, we noticed that we have about a 10" spot where the liner bead has come out of the bead receiver. We were able to pull the liner bead back up and place it in the bead receiver, but it won't stay there. I stopped in to see our pool dealer and he said that after the 3 feet of snow we had this winter, ice must have gotten into the bead receiver and damaged it. The liner is not drooping at all but is just showing the edge of the liner bead and you can see the bead receiver behind it. He said that we have to drain our pool maybe down to the skimmer, have the bead receiver replaced and refill the pool. He also said that it is a homeowners claim. This is our second pool but it was professionally installed. We were happy with the install and our pool dealer. Has anybody had this happen this year or in past years with bad winters?
  4. Put the tablets in the skimmer basket. Years ago a pool dealer gave me one of these. It is called an ez scoop and it is used for DE earth filters. Better than a coffee can and does not cost much at all! http://www.coolpooldeals.com/aladdinequipm...scoopdecup.aspx
  5. Yes, we will watch for leaks over the next few days. My son insisted that he did not tighten the bolts enough the first time he did it. Right now, the clamps which are in two pieces are touching on each side. Thanks for all your help.
  6. It is called a Hayward-Perflex Extended cycle filter model EC40AC Series. In the book it says there is a diaphragm gasket and it fits down on the edge of the filter body. Then the clamps go around that edge and the cover for the bump handle goes on top and you can see the clamps on the front and back of the filter.
  7. They cleaned out the filter, but they can't get it to stop leaking at the clamp on the top of the filter. Did they replace the o ring? No, they just cleaned out the filter and hooked eveything back up. Where is the O ring? While I was posting, my son sat on top of the filter and got it to seal, then they put on that clamp on each side and the next time I went outside the filter and pump were running without leaking. Let me know where that O ring is. I don't recall seeing anything like that on top of that filter. There was some kind of another plastic piece that the fingers set down into with a seal around it, but it didn't look like it had an O ring. At this point, the pump basket is slightly fuller. There might be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch space from water level to the top of the clear lid in the pump basket. I personally think that the dirt devel cleaner we used for the last two summers weakend the pump. Right now I use a Robo Clean plus so I don't have to hook anything up to the suction side or return side of the equipment.
  8. They cleaned out the filter, but they can't get it to stop leaking at the clamp on the top of the filter.
  9. I guess the dirt in the pool was just dirt and algae. My pool dealer told me to put in some liquid shock because I had no chlorine count and circulate then vac and backflush the filter. I did that yesterday and it is still clean today. The pump basket is full with the exception of maybe 1/2 inch at the top. This is a Waterway pump with a more flattened clear lid. It does not have the rounded lid like our old hayward pump did. Our heater is working so we are going to put the steps in the pool after dinner then open up the filter and clean it Monday evening. We had an abundance of rain last week so we won't miss the water we loose when we empty the filter. Can't do it tonight. The Pittsburgh Penguins are playing game two of the Stanley Cup Final tonight and we are Pens fans growing up in Pittsburgh and transplanted 45 miles away to the countryside.
  10. I noticed lots of dirt in my pool center and I thought that there was a white color mixed in with the dirt. It rained all week and I couldn't clean the pool, but I was able to do that this evening. Right now in the center of the pool, is more dark colored dirt along with some white stuff. I have a hayward DE filter that is only 2 years old. I have a feeling that I have a leak, broken seal or torn finger inside it. We didn't open it up and clean it at the end of last summer. I also think that my pump basket has too much air in it for some reason. The lid is on tight and lubricated and after I backflush I try to get as much air as possible out of the pump basket as I can. I have backflushed the filter a few times to try and clean it out from all the rain we had this week. Right now, I think something must be wrong with the filter because it looks like dirt and earth are mixing together and coming back into the pool, although it is not noticable coming out of the return. I am just seeing laying on the pool liner. Any ideas on what to do about this?
  11. Thanks for your input. I am waiting on our plumber to come down to check the gas pressure and all of the switches inside the heater. I also set up a work order for the pool dealer to send someone out to check it. We are third in line. I expect someone to be here next week either way. We opened up the side panel and watched the burners. They are a nice blue flame, but the pilot looks really large compared to them. Anyway, it should be taken care of next week. We put a solar cover on it last night to keep some of the heat from escaping. The pool water was 85 degrees on Tuesday, but it rained all Tuesday night so the water temp went down to 76. Even with the heater running the pool water only went up to 82 with the rain all day Wednesday and Thursday. We ran out and bought a solar cover last night so it only lost 2 degrees over night and the heater is running now. Now we just have to deal with getting a large solar cover off of the pool when we want to go in. I am going to look for some of those large J hooks to hang the cover on against the outside of the pool wall once it is removed.
  12. We had the same experience last year. We also built a Trex deck for our above ground pool. It gets hot, but looks great and requires little maintenance. If you are just doing your Trex deck it will need to season and some wood tannins will come up to the surface. We got around that by hosing off our boards each night for the first month and they stayed wet all night. The next day the sun came out and dried it off and the wood tannins disappeared. We contacted Trex for our railing because we did not want to use the railing kits sold at Home Depost that required us to cut through the surface boards to insert the 4x4 post and Trex sleeve and anchor that with carriage bolt. Instead we ordered the Trex 4x4 post and anchored those to the sides of the deck and used the ballisters, 2x4s and surface boards for the railings. You can easlily make a gate to match that perfectly. Our insurance and building codes required a self locking gate if we do not have a locking fence.
  13. I have a Laars Lite 2 LG natural gas pool heater made by Jandy. It is a little over one year old and the burners shut down sometimes after a few minutes. My home is services by natural gas from a gas well which means it is raw natural gas. It started after the well tender serviced the gas well earlier in the summer and I am wondering if it could be the gas pressure. Does anyone know if there is some time of a switch inside that pool heater that would shut the burners off if the gas pressure was too high? I put in a call to our plumber to come and check but he hasn't made it down here yet. We have had pressure problems in the past so our furnace has a regulator on it and our hot water tank had the gas pressure lowered for that same purpose. I would be interested in any other pool owners experience with this brand of pool heater. Thanks, Linda
