  1. The Phantom is a fantastic machine!! We have used them since they came out appx. 4 yrs. ago. The bag is large & we have installed hundreds of units. Not once has anyone ever said "come get this thing, it don't work". I am not aware of any other pool cleaner that does the same function as the Phantom. Hayward Pool Products hit a home run with this one!! G'Luck.....
  2. Hello Poolowner, You should not be upset that Shasta is using a sub-contactor to do some or all of the scope of work you are expecting to get done. This is a proceedure that is used by the vast majority of the pool industry. As well, pool renovation is a reconstruction that can be a big job that is further limited by the acsess into the working area. Said another way, the work has to be performed around existing landscaping, fences, fountains, decks, sidewalks, etc. Many times a wheelbarrow is the most effiecent way of discarding the debris & not disturb the surroundings. While it is common to cleanup as much as possible after each days work, sometimes it can be difficult to do a whole lot of cleanup due to the conditions mentioned & rain if it occurs. Bottom line, hopefully you can withhold your final judgement until the work is finished & after the final cleanup crew has performed their magic. Then you can either be satisfied or you can tell them what else you expect from their workmanship. If you get too testy at this stage of the work it will likely cause delays that you will be even more upset about. I am not from AZ. but do know that Shasta has been around the pool biz forever & has a reputation that is pretty good, even among their peers. I believe that in the end you will be satisfied with their diligence & trust that your family enjoys a very happy swimseason out there in the desert.
  3. Very good question...... Here is my opinion. 1.Has the manufacturer you represent filed for BK previously? 2.Same as #1 3.Same as #1 & #2 4.Same as #1, #2, & #3 5.Same as ALL of the above. The answers above should shorten any one's quest to find a product that offers Quality, Longitivity, & Peace of Mind.
  4. You are in the right section sir. There just is not a whole lot of us out here that use or are familiar with Trilogy Pools & what they offer or do. I know where they are, & have heard they are nice guys but don't know anything more about their operation. I am familiar very much with Viking Pools & can tell you they still offer an infloor cleaner inspite of hearing many horror stories from many ex Viking Dealers. There is a tendency for the fittings to shear off the bottom of the fiberglass pool shell if the pool is installed in expansive soil conditions or mushy, wet, excavations. The only thing you can do at that time is to F/G over the leaking head of the system since you can't access it from the backside of the plumbing. This is going to cause patches in your pool floor. Depending on whether you have some type of exotic surface finish or not, the patches may not match well. I am not trying to imply that most of these systems will fail, but in my opinion, the only one you have at this time, I would suggest a Hayward Tigershark QC unless you have a real bad leaf issue. Then I would suggest a Hayward Phantom. Either one is easily replacable if you do not find them to be adequate. But I think you are going to be pleased. In any event, best of luck to you & happy swimming in your soon to be built F/G pool!!
  5. I can only say AMEN to what Don Pool wrote. If you noticed, several of us ask if not begged the Midwest Pool guy to chill & not use this Forum in an effort to slam his many former employees. More importantly, you NUKED a topic started by a concerned consumer regarding a company, actually companies located in multiple states whose owner & CEO is in Chapter 7 BK. They have left a trail of issues behind them. If only one more consumer could have read about the issues of Aquamarine Pools, etc,etc all owned by Mark Naras, who by the way is known by members of every segment of the F/G industry as a renegade,[Except for his pool supplier]. The public would have been better served & more informed if you had only deleted the segments you found iffy & left the topic on line. We out here know that you & the other MODS have a thankless job related to this Forum. I would like to say thanks to you & trust that you will allow the good guys/gals of this industry to continue to try to PROMOTE & PROTECT our consumers that put the bread on the table for our loved ones. AMEN again Don PooL!!!!
  6. VE resin is an epoxy/polyester based product. It was utilized in the anti- corrosion field in refinerys, chemical plants, quench areas, tank linings, & in the early 70's made it's way into the F/G yacht & offshore racing boat biz. It is used for several reasons including incredible chemical resistance, flexural properties, & anti osmatic qualities. It was first used on F/G pools in the USA in the mid 70's. This product literally is the main reason the F/G pool industry is as successful as it is today. Pools that are made with lesser types of resins are almost a sure bet to have issues at some unknown time in their service life. Gel coat back in the old days was a general purpose product used on camper tops, cars, boats, etc. Today most pool makers use a product specifically made for immersion service, pool chemicals, & have ultra violet stabilizers to reduce the threat of fading. Extensive testing under lab conditions have been available for over 3 decades that continue to confirm that a swimming pool grade gel coat along with a true[not blended] VE resin is a combination that is almost 100% foolproof. Let's face the facts, yachts costing 10's of millions of $$$ are basically constructed of the exact same materials as most of todays F/G pools. The tail section{as well as many other parts] of commercial planes are basically constructed of the exact same materials as today's F/G pools. Think about that the next time you get a Coke & bag of peanuts on the way to Vegas!! Lastly, also think about all the F/G that is protecting OUR BRAVE MEN & WOMAN in uniform in far away lands. The armored vest they wear & the bullet proof frames in the many vehicles they ride off to battle the bad guys in are basically made of the exact same materials as today's F/G pools.
  7. I have been selling the Hayward tigershark with good responses from customerso. Polaris also a pool cleaner company just came out with one. Aquabot is also a common cleaner. Did the builder leave any plumbing options for a pressure cleaner like Polaris 380 or 3900? Not sure if there any plumbing options as you mention. I'd have to ask. If these "options" would exist near the pump, it will be a haul as our pump/filter is ~50 feet from the pool. Thanks for your response. We use a ton of Hayward Tigershark QC's.Great cleaner, exceptional service, & very easy to own. We have NEVER had a customer that did not like the cleaner.
  8. First take out the grids, clean out all DE from the grids using a water hose with a spray nozzle. Wash out the residue from the bottom of the filter tank. There will be a screw off drain cap on the bottom of the tank that will allow you to completely drain the tank. Be careful how you handle the grids, do not bang them around. Once they have been cleaned, examine them carefully for tears/fabric rips. If you find such a thing, toss that grid & replace it. Put filter back together carefully, make sure that the manifold thet holds the grids in place is totally seated, the O-ring seated flat, the tank band properly secured, then recharge filter with PROPER amount of DE, turn system on. Common mistakes for DE filter owners that can cause DE to come into a pool are: 1. Putting in too much DE powder. This can cause the grids to over stretch, then to rip/tear. 2. Not securing the manifold cover correctly 3. Grids are old & brittle Lastly I strongly suggest that you use a pool technician to do the proceedure above. It is common for tank O-rings to leak, for tank bands to be put on crooked causing leaks or potenial hazard if the top of the tank blows off.
  9. Pool Studio is the absolute best including their incredible customer service. You can "lease" it & pay by the month or the year. Good Luck!!
  10. DO NOT put cooldeck on existing concrete!! Traditional cooldeck will not bond very long to old concrete surfaces. I have used acrylic coatings for close to 20yrs. with great results. I always scrape off/remove cooldeck so that the substrate is exposed for the acylic deck coating to bond to. The worst areas of your deck should be removed & replaced to insure long term good results. This likely will not have to involve the entire deck so your cost should be much less than a total break out / replacement of the entire deck. As for vinyl liners, my suggestion is to avoid any liner made by Latham International. Good luck!!
  11. A vinyl brush/vac has always been my preference. A gunite vac is OK but twice the work. Thanks. I figured the vinyl might work better. I notice the gunite vac doesn't have much suction on fiberglass and the wheels might be bad for the fiberglass surface. also this fiberglass pool is chalking (not painted) just white powder coming off every time its brushed. maybe it needs a vinyl brush vac to keep it clean. How old is the pool?? Better yet, has the pool been resurfaced at some time & what product was used. What part of the country are you in??
  12. A vinyl brush/vac has always been my preference. A gunite vac is OK but twice the work.
  13. Try acetone. You can buy it at a hardware store. I would also drain pool water level 3-4 inches. A clean cotton rag should be all you need but don't be too liberal with the acetone while you are doing this & don't smoke!!! Advise on how this works, if it does not I will make another ,stronger recomendation.
