  1. Hey guys, Our pool is vinyl, the sand is 3 years old (same age as the pool). The pool was shocked on Thursday (liquid chlorine) by the pool installer, he also replaced the Hayward auto-chlorinator (apparently the original one wasn't putting out the proper amounts of chlorine/stabilizer). We then let the pump run 24hrs until this morning when we took a water sample into the local pool store, we also mentioned that after shocking the pool the water was very cloudy (more so) and the filters were trapping a blue slime like substance. The results are Free Chlorine - 6.4 ... Total Chlorine - 6.53 ... pH - 7.8 ... Calcium Hardness - 226 ... Total Alkalinity - 98 ... Phosphates - 0. Aside from the pH being slightly high, they suggested we floc the pool because of the blue slime (algae?). So we ran the filter today on recirculate after floc'ing it and in the morning I'll manually vacuum to waste before adding some pH down chemical. We did have the filter opened up and inspected, all apparently looked alright. Sorry if I missed any necessary info (I wasn't around to see exactly what the chlorine shock was). One of the neighbours had a similar issue, used a product called Klear Sok that solved it for them. Thanks again Shawn Oakley
  2. Hey guys, I've had my pool for 3 years ... no problems up until this year. We opened the pool after winter and it was pretty clear, shocked it, had the water tested and made the proper adjustments with the chemicals. In just under a week's time the pool was cloudy (so much so that we couldn't see the main drain in the deep end). I vacuumed normally once per week as usual and noticed that when backwashing there was no cloudy water coming out of the waste line. We've got a Hayward Sand filter (I don't have the exact model on hand). It's now a month later, we've adjusted the chemicals based on water testings by myself (using the drops) and the local pool store (both of which have been very close) to no avail. I'm beginning to think that perhaps I'm having a hardware issue and not necessarily a chemical issue. Any suggestion are welcome ... if the suggested direction is to call in the local pool people, I might just have to suck it up and do that ... I just thought that after 3 years with absolutely no problems, I could get solve this one. Thanks Shawn Oakley
