  1. Need new light. Have no idea what exactly I need to get. I know I need a 12v, 300 watt light, about 50' of cord, but I am confused by the niche part... I'm under the impression it is the housing for the light/bulb. But I am getting information that I need to make sure I get something that is compatible for my situation. Here's some pics. When I bought the house, this is how I found it. This is the light I am about to purchase.. Will it work? http://www.poolsupplyunlimited.com/pentair-78438100-amerlite-pool-light/4042p1 Thank You.
  2. Re-doing tile (waterline and steps) and must drain pool. Also, may paint the surface (plan to open a different thread for questions on that). I am nervous about the pool popping out of the ground. I believe it is a fiberglass pool. I am embarrassed I cannot be 100% sure of that. I thought it to be concrete, but upon first swim (recently purchased), I noticed some paint peeling on the surface, and behind seems to be the shell of the fiberglass pool. SO, I have read that many fiberglass pools have a hydrostatic plug built in the main drain, but I do not think that mine does, although I wouldn't know how to determine this.(?) The tile work is being done by a "tile man" (whose work I am confident in), but not a pool repair person by primary trade, although he has in fact done pool tile previously for sure. What can be done and what is the best approach to drain the pool without having an in-ground pool become above ground? What can I do? I live on the east coast of Florida. Here's a video I took to show the GF the paint surface flaws in case it helps at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUmg3WSegFU
  3. Redoing pool deck at a home I just purchased and have so far have just removed the old Chattahoochee Stone and repaired/prepared the concrete for a new deck finish. The look/design I am going for is the textured pool deck type that looks like knockdown texture. I say DIY'ish because I am getting some help for this (for example with a few of us with chipping hammers to remove the old pebble/river rock, polishing off the glue where in a part where the old indoor/outdoor carpet was).... but now we seem to be stuck as to what product to order for the texture. Granted, a friend of mine who is sort of "in charge" of this project, and I trust, probably has a much better idea than I do but.... I am finding out that some materials can only be applied to new concrete (which mine is not) but I am lost as to what product we need to be ordering and the cost. Talk to me about any particular product/brand that can be applied for this knockdown texture finish. Tell me about bonding agents, sealers, etc.
  4. Hello I have just purchased pool with a home and I have 2 small children. The first order of business is going to be installing a Child Safety Pool Fence, among other safeguards. I am here for one main question: Can anyone with experience/knowledge of several brands/types recommend a particular product? The internet has seemingly hundreds of different options, and I want to be sure I am getting the most reliable. I plan to span it the entire width of the pool from one end of the enclosure to the other, completely blocking it. I also will install it myself. Just need product recommendation. Thank you for your help with this all-too-important question!
  5. I'd like to get some thoughts/opinions on self installing a smaller delivered fiberglass pool. My research is conflicting.. They can be had for $4,500-$12,000. $7,500 for something like a 20'x40'. Too good to be true? For someone who is physically able to do this type of thing, and friends and family to assist, is this a viable way to save some serious cashola? What types of things typically go wrong? What do the other expenses add up to (equipment rental, etc.)?
