Hey everyone and how are you doing? I'm new to the forum and have some questions that hopefully you pool gods can help me with. I moved into a home with an in-ground pool 3 years ago. Every year prior up until last fall the pool has been opened and closed by a professional. This past fall I decided to save myself the $400 and close it myself. With the help of a friend who has a pool we winterized her to the best of our ability. Today I decided to open up the pool for the season.
Here's what I've done so far.
Removed the cover
Removed all rubber plugs and stoppers
Installed drain plugs in bottom of pump and filter
Opened pressure valve on top of filter
Primed the pump by filling up strainer with a garden hose
So now i started the pump. Took about 30 sec for the strainer to fill all the way, then I could hear and see air bubbles entering the pool so I looked up at the pressure gauge waiting for it to start shooting water out and within seconds it was flowing so I closed the valve and thought this is great everything is working. Now I'm watching the pressure gauge climb up to 9lbs. It paused there for a second or 2 and the dropped back down to 0. Stayed at 0 for about 5-10 seconds then climbed back up to 9lbs. Stayed there for a few seconds and dropped back to 0. It did this about 4 times before I decided nothing was going to change so I turned the filter off. Does anyone know what is going on with this thing? Any and all comments are greatly appreciated .
My pump is a WhisperFlo WF-3
My filter is a Pentair FNS Plus 60
Also I didn't put any DE into it yet because of the pressure dropping. It wasn't even running a full minute before i shut it off, just long enough to know the pressure wasn't going to stay at 9lbs.
Thanks again guys.
