  1. Some people shock spas on weekly basis - heavy users, for someone who is not going to use it that often, you can be good with once a month (which is a good practice) There are two types of shock for Pool and Spas Chlorine Shock (Sodium dichlor) and Non Chlorine Shock (Monopersulfate), Both are used to sanitize the water to kill accumulated bacteria/algae or microbial growth. The chlorine based products are used for startups and eliminating organic waste or cloudiness of water, where as the Non-chlorine shock is what people generally use for regular maintenance. Frequency would depend on use and i would recommend to follow instruction on the branded product you end up using. Good luck.
  2. I would use the pre filter and keep checking for levels of Manganese, Iron, High Total dissolved solids Balancing the water with correct pH, total Alkalinity and Calcium hardness levels would prevent from colored water or stains. I have a spa that we barely use, It had remained without water for a considerable amount of time. Turned out that with all the shock and chemicals we dumped, the heater unit got rusted over time, which was the source of our problems.
  3. Type this "Aqua Logic® (AQL-P-4 Operation) - Hayward pdf" in the google search, the first link should be a pdf of hayward. I hope this pdf file may be helpful, go to page 37 at the end of section 5 and before section 6 starts. Good luck
  4. i agree with chem geek, are you aware of any rusting in your hottub in the heater region? that could be a constant source for your problems.
  5. @sales 101, lol, when i read my own lines seems like i am trying to push the sale here. I think i should have specified the word consulted. I was just praising the design, which is out of ordinary.
  6. As per the spec, Del Zone MCD-50 is compatible with most hot tubs upto 1,000 gallons.
  7. The base is always the strongest part of the hot tub. Plus it will be the center of gravity. Make sure you have more supports in the middle as compared to the side. Once filled that spa will have a lot of weight. Good luck
  8. All great choices. I would personally support the Bullfrog 2013 and later models, If you are someone who is looking for more features which can be customized with their jet packs, Bullfrog may make a great choice. make sure you have a good warranty program which can support you throughout the life of the tub. Regarding the filtration, most hot tubs are built with bypass valve, so they never get 100% filtration either. The Hot springs you had is an exception, but i personally feel their filters are not that great, since the avg micron size of those filters were about 100 microns and needed to be frequently dish-washed. not to confuse you, but not sure if you want to consider MasterSpas, they have this KDF filter, which is a mineral filter that helps in balancing the water better, making it easier to maintain. Good luck.
  9. Tell me about the power supply, did you have power in the GFCI unit or main breaker area? if not, just to be on the safe side, i think you should have the electrician take a look, now that you know the it could be as simple as a faulty breaker or the entire spa pack unit.
  10. Since you mentioned its 10 yr old, it could very well be a faulty heater element, due to rusting/other deposits/water chemistry issues. i believe replacing the heater element is cheaper than replacing the unit. However not sure if they sell universal heater element for this particular Spa. I assume you have checked for loose connection and also for faulty relay and flow switch. Good luck.
  11. There could be couple of possibilities here 1. Control switch is not responding - you may have to reset the heater after the water has cooled down 2. Flow switch on the heater is not operating - You may have to check the flow switch and plug in connection on the system control module 3. Heater or the heater relay not operating / Malfunction - better off calling a tech or dealer to help you through this Good luck.
  12. I would check the following 1. Filter clogged 2. Loose connection in the electrical box 3. GFCI which cloud have become faulty trust this helps
  13. not sure if this can help. saw this on youtube when i goggled it.I believe you need to pull it using a channel lock.
  14. Can you check voltage with the multimeter I will start checking with the circuit beaker, if you are having supply, then move to the box to see if there is supply in the drive box or circuit board. it might be as simple as replacing some component or can be complex as replacing the control box unit on the Spa. Good luck. hope you are able to enjoy your spa soon.
  15. 1. is the filter capturing any dirt. Normally the way filters are designed is to function on surface cake filtration, having little debris help them capture dirt easily. 2. If your chemical balance is perfect (or close), i can only suspect filter cartridge to be the issue. or i will have to agree with Spa_guru.
