  1. This is an interesting thread. Of course you both make good arguments. And the all arguments could easily be expanded into business dealings in general. You seem to be contractors. I tend to lean Quantum's direction. Expecially from an end consumer standpoint. The issues Quantum is attempting to help avoid are long term. I am paying for it and am the one who has to deal with maintenance and any issues over the next 5, 10, 20, etc years. You get to walk away from the job a few days later and hope/assume everything is good. I am looking for a sure thing - that's why I always buy her that extra drink. I don't want to rely on getting lucky if I can help it!
  2. I had three of these spots that were all very similar. One was on the side wall. And two were next to each other on the floor. All about 3" in diameter and fairly round. Rubbed the cholrine tablet on all three, and the spot on the wall was gone the next morning. The two floor spots were unaffected. Been rubbing regularly since to no avail. Left the tablet on for 24 hours which had no affect. I am going to try the vitamic C capsules and see if that helps the other two spots.
  3. Ended up with some good sized flakes today, so thought I would post them. Real thin they are. As you can see, there is also algae getting in behind the bubbles/delamination and making things worse. http://www1.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/Al..._NAME=snapfish/
  4. Meant algae...and knew it! Need a new interior finish anyway, so just one more reason.
  5. Does black mold generally protrude from the pool wall in that you can 'feel' it with your hand or foot? Or does it grow flush on/in the wall?
  6. There's always a third option...and a fourth...and...
  7. My pool is full of water but the plaster continues to delaminate - or at least flake off. There are are number of visible bubbles that eventually break open and flake away. Perhaps the delamination is no longer happening, but the results are still playing out.
  8. Great thread here. Facing the exact same bubbling and flaking here with my plaster pool except I think it was empty and/or drained last year prior to our purchase of the property. It doesn't look pretty and we'll resurface it eventually, but it is fully functional this season so far. As GJJ asks, is it only cosmetic or are there structural concerns? My holes are white and considerably rougher underneath the chips.
  9. Thanks for all your input. Picked up a diverter - the one with a thin black o-ring on the bottom - the one from the link (ps558, thanks). Has a regulator on the bottom (the regulator faces down in the skimmer) which regulates the percentage of suction between the basket and the main drain. I have it set at 50/50 now. So far so good. It moves the debris in the pool into/around the drain. Some gets in and is removed from the pool though (what should my expectation be??). Water circulation is nice with it pulling both the skimmer and main drain. It seems all I needed was the diverter...for now.
  10. Okay, I will look for these items. No black o ring though. 100% suction on the skimmer does keep the surface nice and clean. But I would like to see what a little suction on the bottom would do too and then decide.
  11. Haven't had a chance to get down and pull the cover to check. There is a single pipe coming up in front of the pump. Both skimmer holes are open.
  12. The main drain on our pool does not seem to have any suction - as it if is disabled. Bought the house last fall and can tell there has been some work done to the pool plumbing in the past, but the specifics are uknown. Mainly it just looks as though pipes were re-routed to support a new filter and/or pump setup. House built in '84. Pool may or may not be original, but is surely not new. Any reason the main drain would be disabled? How can I test it and what is the target in regards to how much suction it "should" have? DE filter (size escapes me right now) New 1 1/2 HP pump and impeller Push pull valve ~20,000 Gal pool 1 skimmer 1 main drain Thanks in advance. Finally found this forum and there have been some very informative reads! -Troy PHX
