Jandy 1400 171 And 190 Codes Won't Go Away

Recommended Posts

5 year old system. starting getting 171 and 190 error codes. Indicating a bad backboard. Replaced the backboard and cleaned the cell which was not really that dirty. It runs for a few hours and then the service light and 171 and 190 error codes come up again.

If I cut power and reset the unit it will run for a few hours and then I get the same codes and service message.

I replaced the backboard as it was less than $100. The cell and the front board are both closer to $400 so I want to narrow it down as just changing parts is expensive.

I'm leaning towards replacing the front board as my service guy says he's seen that before. He also said I should replace the cell no matter what because it is past it's 5 year typical life any way.

#1 Can a bad or failing cell cause these codes?

#2 Has anyone had the front board "talking" to the backboard and sending these codes?

Thanks for any advice.

Pretty much the the same scenario I am going through. Got the 171/190 codes so I replaced the backboard yesterday. The cell was replaced 2 years ago, and the sensor was replaced one year ago. I have not replaced the front board. If I turn the unit off & then back on, it works fine...for a while.

Help!

Replaced the cell with the new style(includes new flow sensor) First I got a 172 and 180 code so I restarted it and held the calibration button down on the front board until the small green LED stayed lit. Now I'm getting the 171 and 190 codes with the service light(orange)

What's left? The front board? They are discontinued so it looks like the smart play is a whole new unit.

I looked at the paperwork and it's actually closer to 8 years so I'm not too bummed about the cell.

More than once i have had units continue to have the error codes after a new cell/sensor installed. Then after a couple of hours, or even after a couple of days, the customer would call and say codes went away, and everything is now working normal. Just make sure that when you are re-calibrating the daughter board that you have waited for the "wait" to disappear from the LCD display before you push the button (about 4 min).
