  1. After further research, I'm not sure the thermal overload is shutting the pump down; I feel no excessive heat at all. While its not a typical bad capacitor symptom, could a bad capacitor cause this problem. I know typically a bad capacitor will prevent a motor from starting (giving the hum noise), can a bad capacitor cause a motor to shut down after the motor has started? Just trying to brainstorm without throwing unneeded parts at this thing; my thoughts are that the capacitor is being depleted of energy faster than it can be replenished. Anybody have any thoughts about that?

  3. I must first acknowledge that this is an above ground pool pump and I have this question posted on the correct board also. But I know that you spa guys have a lot of experience with pumps and would appreciate any input that you have... I have a 2 speed Pentair Dynamo pool pump P/N 340221. I discovered today that when I switch over to high speed the motor turns off after 30 seconds or so. After a minute or so it turns back on only to repeat the process. From what I read, it appears that the thermal overload is responsible for shutting it down, but I need to find out why. I checked voltage and I have a constant 117 volts at the motor when its running. Does anybody have any other ideas? Thanks for any input...

  5. Thanks for the response. Is this a do-it-yourself type of repair or do I need to send the board in? What is the the typical cost for repair?
  6. I have a Gecko spa pack #0202-205028 that keeps throwing an HL error code. I have cleaned the filter, ran w/o a filter, checked for obstructions in heater tube and continue to get the code after water reaches the set temp. I have notice when the water reaches temp, the pump shuts off then I hear boiling type of sound. Then HL is displayed and the noise stops. I suspect that something is not triggering the heater to shut down when it reaches temp; it only shuts down the pump. does anybody have any ideas? thanks
  7. Im looking for a little input. I have been shopping hot tubs for the past couple months. I am trying to stay cheap around $5-6K. I have got it narrowed down to either a Vita Spa Monarque or a Jacuzzi J-245. Both retailers seem very reputable and have been around many years. There is a very minimal price difference between the two. As far as insulation, I'm in Oklahoma.
  8. I acquired a free hot tub and have been working through problems. I put new bearings in my main pump (Waterway executive 48 4.5 hp). After getting it put back together, the pump will not start on low speed (just hums). I can turn it on high, it starts, then turn it back down to low and it runs fine. It runs fine until it reaches the set temp, shuts off, and when the water cools off enough to start back up again it just hums. I replaced the start capacitor today and it did not cure the problem. What else could cause these symptoms? As a side note, before the bearing change, I did not have the bad cap symptoms. Is there something I could have messed up? The cap looked like something had melted out of it, a black tar –like substance. Thanks for any assistance
