  1. Hi tcj I'm a bit rusty at this but it sounds like you need some stabilizer in your pool. If your CYA (cyanuric acid) is non existent then your chlorine will disappear in the sunlight within half an hour or so. You need to add cyanuric acid at a rate of 3kg per 100 cu metres (or 22,000 galls). Dont pre-mix with chlorine - dose directly into your pool. To bring down your TA you can add dry acid at a rate of 2kg per 100 cu metres (or 22,000 galls) but add it a little at a time (pre-disolve it in a bucket 8:1) and keep checking otherwise you can end up yo yoing down and up, down and up with your TA. Hope that helps
  2. Oh dear Cherylandco, I'm sorry about the lack of response. I am no expert, and I dont have an inline chlorinator, but I know about them. You would connect the chlorinator 'down stream' of your sand filter so that the filtered water is chlorinated as it is returned to the pool. You will find an example of one here http://www.aquasuperstore.com/products/Abo...nator~4268.html But just put 'inline chlorinator' in your search engine to get lots of other examples and offers. Another way to chlorinate your pools is with a chlorine dispenser that floats in your pool - you can see an example of one here http://www.gardengames.co.uk/acatalog/Delu..._Dispenser.html There are other ways to chlorinate but they are outside my experience so hopefully someone else will point you in the right direction. Good luck
  3. Hi Nojjy I have only had my pump for a year but my pump made that noise after I had only a few days. I found sand in the pump and washed it out. This seemed to clear it and I rarely get any noise now. However, I have noticed that I have to ensure all my seals are tight otherwise I loose power. Worth a try as your strapped for cash.
  4. Hi RenoSwimmer I envy you the long season. Our summer is just about over. You will find some of your questions answered here www.troublefreepool.com/category/pool-school/winterising and closing your above ground pool Good luck
  5. Joe Dont know if this will be helpful, and it only applies if the Polaris is attached to a sand filter. My pump only gets noisy if sand somehow backs up into it. It only has to be a little bit. To cure, I detatch the pump and hose it through several times.
  6. Not sure why my signature is not showing up. You can usually see all the details regarding my pool in that. I have an FSP 16" sand filter. Takes 33kg of sand. The pump is 1/3 hp. They came as a package. I think that is just about enough for my 18x12' pool but if I was buying now, I think I would go to 1 or 1.5 horse power. Problem with going bigger though is that it costs more to run and I like to leave my pump on for the daylight hours. I have a Duratech heat exchanger which is fairly cheap to run. The sand filter and pump is wired into the Duratech which controlls all. I have another link for connections for you. www.poolcentre.com/plumbing_supplies.htm www.lbsgardenwarehouse.co.uk/src/froogle/Hose-Pipe-Fittings-DPTFITTINGS2/ They have loads of connectors for swimming pools and ponds. Oh and now I can see the signature!
  7. Hi Mudrider I found these sites helpful www.poolcentre.com/plumbing_supplies.htm www.lbsgardenwarehouse.co.uk/src/froogle/Hose-Pipe-Fittings-DPTFITTINGS2/ good luck
  8. Hi Evilstevie I upgrade the pump/filter system on my quickup pool which is one of those pools with the inflated ring at the top and metal supports at the sides only. I also added a heater. Getting the right connectors was a pain at first but eventually I just asked the supplier of my new pump to sort it out and they did - free of charge. Afterwards I found quite a few sites that did connectors like www.intexspares.co.uk that have adaptors to connect other pumps etc. This is my 2nd season with a pool but 1st season with the upgraded system - dont know how I managed before. Water crystal clear every day now. Good luck
  9. Congratulations Akiva! A new baby and a clean pool! Hope you enjoy both as much as I am enjoying mine. Now if we could just have some nice warm sun here life would just be blissful.
  10. Suzie We have some knowledgeable people on this site but they will need more info from you. You need to give the read out from your water test results and either put your pool type/size and equipment in your signature or in the message. Without that info they cannot help much.
  11. How did you all do that so quickly. I take too long typing obviously.
  12. Beer Sorry your having so much trouble. Dont give up yet. I had lots of problems my first season (last year) and swim every day now. If you add your pool details to your signature then the experts on this site will be more able to help you. Sounds like your adding a lot of chemicals but not getting anywhere - but you have to bring your pool up to shock levels if you want to kill an algie outbreak and maintain that level overnight. Once you have everything under control, it depends on the size of your pool on how much you dose daily. I guess if your pool is in full sun and is never covered you will need to dose it daily. However, sometimes a re-ocurring outbreak of algie can be caused by sunken steps in the pool - these usually have some type of weights under or inside the steps where your chemicals do not reach - algie loves hiding inside steps waiting for the chemicals to disappear when the sun comes out. So first thing I would do is check under those steps (if you have them) and then make sure you bring your pool upto shock level and if it drops off over night, bring it up again. Good luck
