jgraves
Good afternoon ... I had to pull my spa pack to replace the pressure switch and decided to do the heater at the same time. While I was pulling things apart I noticed that the phone cord type connector to the top site control panel had some rodent damage that appeared to be old. I put the spa back together and now all the lights on the control are lit up and is is displaying "88888" as well as some other things. Up until this point I thought the controller was working properly. The buttons control the proper function and everything else on the spa seems to be working properly. Would it be safe to assume that me messing around with the tub aggravated the damaged wires causing this? Is is possible to simply replace the phone cord connector? Thanks! SpaSage
Hi Jeff, The "8888" message usually indicates that the topside isn't communicated correctly with the board. It's usually a break in communication. So, I would assume that it does have something to do with the chewed on cable. If it's a small section of the cable that is damage then it would probably be best to splice out the damaged section and then reconnect each of the wires inside individually; just match the colors. If possible, try to stagger the connections... so instead of having all of the wires inside of the cable patched at the same point in one giant glob, you have a connection, a gap, a connection, a gap... it'll just make it easier for you while you're working. jgraves
I was able to fix this on Saturday. I cut out the bad spot and crimped on a new RJ45 jack. Works like a champ BUT I scraped it up while feeding it back though the spa. Go figure. The wire is rated at 300v ... I'm wondering if just using some cat5e to remake it would work.
