  1. Just wondering if there's been an update to this situation, Virraszto.
  2. How long do you leave it on? Do you run the filter while it's on? How many days of 90 degree temps does it take to heat it up some? We just put ours on the other day and it's been below normal temps until today. Today and the rest of the week, it's supposed to be 90 degrees each day. Our thermometer broke and I haven't bought another, but the water sure does feel cold!
  3. If that price includes the land preparation, sand, installation, etc, then YES...that sounds like a very good deal to me.
  4. Thank you! We were enjoying the pool a lot last week, but this week, temps have only been in the low 70's. Today it's only supposed to be 69. We'll be enjoying it this weekend though. Temps will be back up to 90. Hubby has been working like crazy trying to finish the deck. When we are finished with the deck and landscaping, I'll post more pictures.
  5. You have GOT to be kidding me. I would be furious! First thing you need to do is contact the Better Business Bureau. Then you need to get the owner of this pool place out to your house. Tell him that you've contacted the BBB and that you are demanding a full refund. If you are successful in that, then go with another company to install the pool. There is no excuse for what they did to you.
  6. Waterbear, Wanted to ask you real quick if this test kit would be good: http://www.lesliespool.com/shopping/produc...iProductID=9067 There is a Leslie's Pool store right near my work and I thought if this was any good, I would pick one up tomorrow (that way I don't have to worry about one being shipped...plus it's a little cheaper).
  7. I have heard many people rave about the test strips. I took the stabilizer and chlorine tablets out last night. Backwashed a TON because I knew storms were on the way. Got a TON of rain. I went out after the rain and added 2 jugs of bleach. This morning, everything is reading within normal range. Just tested again and got the same readings with the chlorine being a tiny bit lower than this morning. Does CYA eventually drop on it's own? Is this something that I may have to bring back up again in a few weeks with stabilizer? I ask because I bought 2 jugs of it and I'm going to return them if I don't need them.
  8. I finally bought a test kit (thank you Jenlind!) that tests CYA. Here are my readings: Total Hardness: 75 Total Chlorine: 0 Free Chlorine: 1 PH: 7.3 Alkalinity: 140 CYA: 75 Now how in the world do I get my Total Chlorine up? I bought 2 big jugs of Ultra Bleach from Wally World. Is my CYA ok? My water looks very clear, so that's really not an issue....YET.
  9. Cool...thanks! I went today and they were out of EVERY SINGLE testing kit. I will check a different Walmart and see if they have one.
  10. I've read that you can add salt (solar salt) to a pool even when you're using the BBB method. Wondering how many of you have tried it and if you've noticed a difference in the feel of the water. I am going to give it a try, but am having a hard time figuring out how much salt to add. I also need to order a test kit that tests the CYA. I looked at Walmart, Target and Lowes today, but none of the kits test the CYA levels.
  11. So our pool has been up for 4 days. We did as the pool people suggested and added 3lbs of shock to it the first day. The chemicals were all reading high that evening. The next day, everything was low. I then added baking soda and two chlorine tablets. The ph and alkalinity is reading normal, but the chlorine is 0. I used test strips AND then I also tested using the kit that they gave us (the one that you add the drops to) and it's also showing nothing. Today, the water really irritated our skin. It makes it feel extremely dried out. You can't even smell an ounce of chlorine. We don't know what to do. Do we buy stabilizer? Our pool is in direct sun 24/7 if that means anything. ***Update: The pool is reading completely normal levels this morning. Do I still need to buy stabilizer? That's something we've never added.***
  12. Have any of you used composite decking for your pool deck? DH is going to start work on our deck Monday and he had planned on using composite decking for it, but many people have told him that it gets extremely hot if it's in full sun all day (which ours will be). If he doesn't use composite decking, then he will just use regular deck boards or 2x6 boards (pressure treated). What would you recommend?
  13. Yeah...it is really clear! It wasn't at first, but they ran it for a long time. When I left for work this morning, there was dirt washed all into the road all the way down to the stop sign (about 60 feet) from them letting the hydrant run for a while. I hope the neighbors aren't mad at us! Kids are LOVING the pool. They don't mind the cold water. It's reading 71 degrees....brrrrrr.
  14. Wanted to post an update.... The city utilities came out today at 1pm. They flushed the fire hydrant for a long time. Hubby said that thing had some POWER. The force of water blew all the neighbors gravel away from their driveway. They got it all up and put it back before they left. After it was flushed really well, they turned the pressure way down. It only took about an hour to fill a 27 foot pool and cost us $65.
  15. I am still having a VERY hard time understanding all this chemical stuff. We just had our pool filled today. The only thing we've added is shock (what the pool people told us to add). Now what? I still would like to do the BBB method. I'm really hoping that once I get to testing the water and all that I'll learn what the heck I'm doing. *** Well, I tried to delete this post but I don't see an option for that. I am FINALLY understanding things. I am nowhaving a hard time finding large bags of baking soda. My brother in law gets 50 lb bags of it from ACE Hardware. Ours don't sell it. The largest we've found is 12 lb bags at Sam's club. I may just end up having to buy a ton of boxes from Wally World.
