  1. Waterbear: Thats good informaiton. Lately I noticed some brown staining for lack of a better word on my liner. Could this be a result of the metal being added? What would you recommend in place of the Frog system?
  2. I've been using the pool frog system for 3 seasons now, like you it came as part of my pool package. I like the fact that it keeps my chlorine levels lower (your chlorine levels will barely register on your meters thanks to the mineral pack), making it easier on the eyes. You only have to purchase a single mineral pack per season, it's the chlorine packs that you will swap out every week and half to two weeks (at least that’s how it’s going for me right now). In addition you would also need to pick up about two of the algaecide packs for the frog (good for 3 months). It is probably more expensive, but my pool store usually sells a whole season box with all the chemicals I need for a season for around 400.00. What I can tell you is aside from vacuuming and shocking the pool once a week, I have pretty much not had to do anything else to the pool during the season and have had no issues with algae, cloudiness, etc.
  3. The last couple of days, I've been swimming in the pool (in the evenings), and I've noticed this creeking sound coming from the far wall (close to where the inlet is located). It sounds to me like it is coming from the top metal ring around the pool wall. I live in Virginia, and temps have been in the mid 90's for the last couple of days. Could this simply be the metal cooling in the evenings? The pool is a 24 round Artisian (metal).
  4. As near as I can tell, most AG pools are very similar. They are only made of 1 of 3 things, Resin, Steel, or Aluminum. Each has there own pro's and con's. As long as you take care of your pool, as the manufacturer suggests it will most likely last you a good long time no matter which pool you choose. What I would recommend is to go with the one that offers you the best warrenty, and the most for your money.
  5. So I'm in the process of building a deck around part of my new pool install, well I needed to move the air hose around to the opposite side of the pool, for nail gun. Now normally I would have walked it around, but after two days of working in the sun, I tosed it. Well the hose caught, and the metal cuppling came down on the top rail making a small dent, and chipping the paint. My question is should I be worried about rust or anything? It really is a small chip. Or should I coat it with something, and if so what? I really didn't want to have to paint over it, and then be able to see this mark on my pool, but if it's either that or rust, then I'll do what I have to.
  6. Just had my pool and frog installed on Wednesday of last week. I haven't had it long enough to tell you the pros and cons, but so far everything seems OK.
  7. Cherylandco, I am by no means an expert, and am still awaiting the installation of my first pool (24 round Artesian), but I have some expirience with my parents inground pool, and have read enough of the post on here to attempt to answer some of your questions. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in, and help out. 1.) I woud say if the hole was not caused by rust, and does not appear to weaken the structure, then you should be able to sand it, treat it to prevent rusting, and go from there. Alot may be determined with the liner is removed, because then you will be able to get a better look at what has been happening inside the pool. 2.) Is the skimmer broken, or the skimmer pannel rusting out? If not I don't see why you would need to replace it. 3.) For 2 returns, at least in an inground pool, they will both run off of your 1 pump. I would guess that you may require a larger pump to handle 2 returns, but not 2 seperate pumps. 4.) Not sure on this one. If your asking do you need a pad for the bottom before installing your liner, then the answer is no. Generally your pool company will have laid sand on the bottom before installing the liner. They do make pads that can be placed on the ground under the liner, but I can't speak to there effectivness. 5.) I've always been told that beaded liners where the way to go. However I would say if your pool is as old as you said it is, and if this is the original liner, then replacing it with the same type might save you some money, and should work fine. 6.) With liners the thicker the better, I would say as the thicker liners generally hold up better and have the longer warrenty. But at the end of the day it breaks down to what can you afford. 7.) Not even going to try and guess at this one. 8.) I think this varies by State, county, etc. For me I have to fill it up with City Water (via my hose), and then fillout a waiver so that I don't get charged the wastewater tax on it (this is only for new installations, and first time fills). I've heard that some places allow the local fire departments to fill there pools. Also in reference to your not being able to use well water. I know people who have, and though it is probably not recommended can be done (will probably cost you more in chemicals to balance the water, etc.). Hope some of this helps
  8. Cherylandco, The pool I purchased is coming with the Frog inline chlorine system, here is a link to the site: http://www.kingtechnology.com/products/products-poolfrog.htm. I don't know much about it yet because it won't be installed until Saturday. I'll come back and post my expiriences with the unit later in the summer, as I get used to using it.
  9. That was my thinking as well. Thanks for a sanity check.
  10. So I'm still waiting to hear from the pool store letting me know that my pool is in. I was wondering if I should contact an electrician, and have the 110 outlet installed or should I wait until the pool is installed? I was waiting because I was hoping to have the outlet installed closer to the pool so that I won't have an extension cord running across the yard. I just don't know the installers generally want power available when they do the install.
  11. Well, I went with a 24 foot round from Artesian. I don't have it yet, which is upsetting the wife, as they told us it would be in sometime in Feb. Hopefully it will be here soon.
  12. I recently just purchased the Artesian, from a local dealer. It hasn't been installed yet, but I liked what was offered and what the pool came with. I would say that if the pools are similar, go with the one that gives you the best deal.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. The sales guy told us of this with the original version, but indicated that 2nd version had the steps offset, and allowed for better circulation to help reduce algae growing behind them (guess this was a problem with the original type) is this not the case? As for the sagging, you are the first person to tell me this, how do I put supports in to keep this from happening?
  14. It's a late post, but I went in on the 23rd of Dec and bought it. It won't be delivered until sometime in Feb, so I don't have any additional information, but the first step is taken. I'll try and post pics once its installed, and I build the deck. Tigger:: I'm only familiar with automatic pool cleaners for inground pools (Polais), and they have a seperate pump that runs them. This evidentially uses the same pump as the rest of the pool, so I'm not sure how this is going to work. I'll let you know once it's all done.
  15. It's the Riverview Ultra 24' round. Basic Facts are as follows: Limited Lifetime Warranty Stainless Steel Service panel Wide mouth skimmer 25ml beaded liner A 1.5 horse pump, and a 200 gallon sand filter What we really liked about the pool was the store at which we decided to buy. For one it is less than a mile down the street from my house. They sell both resin and steel, sand filters and cartridge filters, and at no time did they try to simply pedal the most expensive option as the best. They simply explained the benefits and disadvantages of each, and let us decide. They even talked me out of buying their top of the line pool, claiming it was overkill. They also through in their silver package which contained winter cover, an automatic pool cleaner, the regular cleaning equipment, and of course a months worth of chemicals In addition we added the following upgrades: A pool light (replaced the resirc jet, and has a jet built in). Wedding cake steps (the second version.) as I will be building a deck at least part way around it.
