  1. Awesome, thanks. I'll look into all that. One question: Will the spa leak if I unscrew the jet on the inside? Or should I wait until I drain the spa?
  2. Sorry it took so long, but I've had a ton of other stuff to deal with. No luck with sealing the shop-vac hose. It's like it's 100-percent stopped up or something. Anyway, here's a shot of the two types of jets I have.
  3. One thing that I think Roberts Hot Tubs should do is advise you on over-measurement on the spec page of the order process. In other words, we know that it's always a good idea to go a little larger than the actual hot tub size. I've seen other websites that advise you to measure the hot tub and then add 1" for a slight over-fit (1/2" all around). However, with Roberts, I could make the decision myself to go 1" larger, but then I don't know if they would make the same choice based on their experience. I wouldn't want to end up with a cover that's 2" too big!. So I just put a comment in their comments field (which is a great idea) and told them my measuring method.
  4. Well, I finally placed an order from Roberts. I checked, double-checked, and triple-checked... and yet I haven't been this nervous about a purchase in ages!
  5. Thanks, I'll look into that. I inherited this hot tub when I bought my house, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is kinda gunky inside.
  6. Total noob here. I've been maintaining my hot tub since its last refill a month and a half ago. I've kept all my levels in the right place, making a few adjustments along the way. Over the weekend I noticed that my bromine levels were dropping, and so I added a couple more tabs to the feeder (they were nearly depleted). But, the next day they'd dropped to 1 ppm, and today it's at 0 ppm. I'm not sure if I should have, but I tossed in a packet of sodium bromide yesterday with the hopes of kick-starting it, but that obviously didn't work. Oh, and I shocked it Saturday night as well. So what am I doing wrong?
  7. Is it okay for a shop vac to run while revving like that? I just don't want to burn it out or anything. The hot tub is an old 1994 Cal Spa. I can't find anything online that looks like my jets, but I could post photos later.
  8. That does seem pretty cool, but I would think it's dependent on your local soil conditions. In my area (Harvey, La.), subsidence is a big concern. All slab houses use piles here, and while a hot tub foundation would not require piles, concrete footings are advised. I would be afraid of one of these EZ Pads becoming un-level due to subsidence (again, at least in my area).
  9. There are some scary people in this world, and the scariest are licensed "professionals" who are fools in their field. I'll deal with "nuisance" all day long before I risk my life to avoid it. Anyway, glad you're getting it done right. So this guy is not only a hot tub installer, but also a licensed electrician? Whew... scary, scary world.... And my heart goes out to the other people who he's talked into this nightmare ticking time bomb scenario.
  10. I actually tried that already, but nothing happened. ok, i must be missing something, i'm about stumped at this point. i guess we need roto-rooter. Well, I'll at least try blowing again with the pump on high and see where that gets me. Thanks again for all your assistance.
  11. Cavalier: Wow. I may still go with RH, but they really need to fire their shipping company. Plus, I really dread the awkwardness of making the delivery driver (who's got a day of work to get on with) wait while I open the package and thoroughly inspect everything before signing for it.
  12. Well, I tried blowing air through the adjuster, but it's in a tight spot under the deck, so I couldn't really get the vacuum nozzle on it. So, I just severed the line right under it with the intention of re-gluing it later (I've got spare parts). This was when I realized that there was a bit of fluid in there which I drained as much as possible. I then tried blowing air straight through the severed connection. After nothing happened, I put my hand around it to form a seal, but all the shop vac did was rev up, hinting that it wasn't being productive. I can't remember if the pump was on high, but I'll make sure I try that while blowing air through. The jets are a mixture of straight nozzles and spinners, and the air lines are configured as you described. The tub is full, by the way. It's also filled to the proper level. Hey, thanks for all the brainstorming you've been doing. I'm rather baffled by this issue. Are these kinds of clogs common?
  13. Well, I'm thinking strongly about ordering from RH Tubs. If anyone wants to raise any red flags of warning, make it soon, because I plan to order it on Thursday or Friday.
  14. Well, I blew air through the line from the air adjuster, but nothing happened. I then disconnected the hose from one of the adjusters and found a small amount of water in the line. I drained as much as possible, but still no air comes through. I even tried using the shop vac to coax some of the water out, but it did no good. I also examined the jets, but I can't tell how they come out. I tried twisting them, but they wouldn't budge, and I didn't want to force them. Finally, I ran out of daylight, so I'll have to try again this weekend. Oh, and the lines are large, either 3/4" or 1".
