  1. Alright lets make this clear. I do not respond to customers as I did on this forum in response to the dealer bashing that this thread originated on. Perhaps I slightly over reacted, but I am a very passionate person of many things, including motorcycles. This does not exclude marketing, sales, and their trends. I have also sold to Costco, and many other locations of the same size, and know first hand how their system works. When you walk into a Porsche dealer do you see price tags? how about a BMW dealer? Or there was also mention of MSRP's being misleading. Does Tuffstuff fitness's web site have MSRP's on it? yes indeed it does! How about Sony? yes they do also. Yamaha has no pricing at all. Do these facts make any of these companies bad companies? NO IT DOES NOT! Every dealer, every company has it's own style and it's own system. Maybe it is adapted to it's market, the competition or many other factors. But to come on here "anonymously" and start bashing dealers for simple marketing tactics I find rather annoying. So call me what you will, and assume I am a person or attach a label to me that does not in fact describe me in the least. The rest of you can just pretend to be perfect. But at least I have the nerve to set the record straight. Blunt as it may be. So were forwarded anonymous statements and generalizations. Fair is Fair though. and if you can dish it out anonymously on a forum, bashing dealers, making generalizations, then expect to get it in return.
  2. well I guess my customers know that they can't flip my desk I have done nothing but showcase consumers lack of respect and understanding or at least the ones posting on this forum or in this thread.... I will still take care of any customer that comes through my doors. Much of my information is free, but we have noted people taking advantage of this service and good faith that has been provided in the past. A water test giving the same results as your local professional pool/spa store provides would cost you 300-500 through your local utilities As a result of this things are changing, and you can be sure it will change across the industry. As well as Costco's prices trending higher, as the economy rebounds and all inventory levels are moving back to the proper levels..... One thing will stay constant though, the companies they do choose to support, will continue to go out of business and the warranties with them....
  3. I explained why prices are not put on product, I know what a price shop is, and I KNOW i am going to make the competition WORK for it if they want my REAL price....if you want a sales and marketing course go to school......I have represented over 32 companies and sold in many industries. Your lame bashing does not serve a purpose....give me some facts to justify buying a hot tub from Costco, then going to your professional dealer for help.....Then and only then might we have an intelligent conversation until then, get educated. I know I am
  4. my store is doing just fine. In fact we are one of the best in the country, and I treat my customers with much respect......But I will ALWAYS treat MY customers better than some stranger who supported Costco and now wants me to save them... I also see problems, and I fix them now! I am proactive, rather than reactive to a situation....You want us to be in business and have us save you, use our free services and support someone else?? your future must include living inside of a fairy tale?? What is lacking on this forum, rather than in my showroom, is common business sense and a respect for peoples efforts, education, time and value. dunk your heads in some water and for the record I am not angry, but just as there once were no speed regulation signs, we all broke the rules and an order had to be put in place.... this industry will change......and you don't have the dealers to blame
  5. I just have to get on the record to say that all you complainers are absolutely annoying...If we put prices on every spa we would be making it too easy for our competition to source out our pricing and either beat it or be right in line with it....We are not in business to make our competitions business easier.....Ever try walking into a home depot with a camera? do it and see how friendly they are with you.....It is much harder to price shop a big box store because you have so many products in one store, you cant go around with a pad of paper and write down every price.. We also put the MSRP's on our spa for this reason as well... If we do get prioce shopped, it is going to be the wrong price and our competition's price will not be in line with ours... Lastly, all you Costco tub owners who love going to your local PROFESSIONAL spa dealer for free water tests and information to teach you how to use your new tub, that no one at costco knows anything about. Let me be the first to tell you, this is going to stop!!!!!! That's right.....soon all professional hot tub companies will be charging customers who do not buy a spa from them or chemicals at the time of the test for water tests.....You expect us to stay in business while not supporting us and want to continue to use our free service??? waste our time as you know nothing about your spa, while I could be losing a customer up front that is looking at spas?? wake up and smell the coffee folks....this is going to change, and I can say in my city we have been working closely with all hot tub professionals to see this through.. You want the world for nothing....well no more and over the past 3 years all Costco's hot tub company's have gone out of business....who's there to help you now? that's right so unless you know anything at all about marketing and or a retail industry, quit complaining and suck it up nuff said
  6. As a preventative measure I would look at your alkalinity readings...A high alkalinity reading will cause this line to happen faster and more frequently. you can also bring the water level up past the water line and use any water enzyme product.this will eat away at the scum line, once the problem is taken care of, with regular use this should keep the problem at bay, as well as being a source of continual cleaning for your filters. The enzymes can not jump out of the water, this is why the level must be brought up above the scum line lastly, my favorite product as just a quick fix cleaner is clean and perfect......with any cleaner though you should do your best to not get it in the water as it may cause slight foaming. So apply it to a cloth and wipe...
  7. A concrete pad is always going to be your best option. Especially in climates where you have a freeze/thaw cycle. This will also protect you against any warranty claims that my have a "spa pad clause" meaning if the pad was not done properly it will void warranty. Patio stones will work, but they are much more work, moving each stone, leveling etc In my opinion it is much easier to build a form that is level, pour your concrete and bam you are set..... If it is getting too cold to pour your concrete, I personally would dig, build my forms, put in a gravel bed that is level for drainage, and for now set the spa on the gravel.....when spring comes around and you are doing your spring drain.....you can then pour your pad and put it back in place..... Concrete is always the best option in my opinion......just make sure if you hire someone you tell them to make it level.....most concrete guys are use to putting a slight pitch in the concrete to avoid puddling as well as keeping any rain or water build up from going towards the house
  8. The short answer is it's normal....... As a company we suggest in colder climates to run your hot tub 2 degrees higher than where you like it to be......Even better we would like to see customers run their spas @ the max temp in the winter time......This way if the power goes out for any amount of time you have more time before your spa will freeze.....With any luck the power comes back on before you have to drain. Think of it like wearing a winter hat......as soon as you take it off you cool down dramatically....70% of your heat loss is from your head, as heat rises......same with your roof in your house, it is the biggest area of heat loss.....so as soon as you open your spa you are going to lose heat....plain and simple here in Ontario it is not strange to see -25 C temps with a wind chill in the winter, and we will lose 2-4 degrees instantly when opening the spa..... if you have more then 3 pumps, the spa "could" not be heating when all pumps are on as well
  9. RV antifreeze is fine, the important thing to take note of is that it is non toxic....A plumbing grade pool grade, rv grade will be fine with the volume you will need it mught be better to drain and throw the anti freeze in to your skimmer lines with the filters out until you see a little antifreeze comming out of the jets, also blowing out your lines as previously mentioned
  10. well you are officially the first person I have ever heard say that....I suppose it is a little on the gentle side, but is designed to push toxins out of the body in the same way a masseuse does at a real spa....you know, that sliding of the palm motion on your back. price still seems a little high, but who am I to say, sq footage probably isn't cheap out west...
  11. Well this is a really interesting thread to say the least, and I'd like to send my condolences for the loss of funds. it seems to me that the term "Show" is getting thrown around very loosely these days. This was a tent sale, not a show, as are many of the related topics...Nothing more then tent sales, held by dealers, scammers or the like, NOT manufacturers.. Reading through these posts I am still fairly young compared to some, but I have been selling for almost 10 years and I've represented over 30 companies. Shows usually have a large variety of products displayed not just one product like spas for example.. The cottage home life show, the Canadian hardware show, the pool and spa show, the LBMAO show etc etc...They all have a diverse offering...It is also very easy to tell that these shows are professional and legit because of there size and history..You sign in, you get scanned in, color coded tags, etc..I mean there are some that are designated to one product, like the lighting show in Vegas every year, but it's so damn big, you know one guy isn't running it... Do research when you attend these events, you can get good deals but realize the risks involved....Risks have big pay outs, but they can also burn ya hard.
  12. reading through all this I'll have to second the motion on taking a look at the grandee or the Vanguard....The Vanguard won consumer digests best buy award in '03 and is a very nice tub dollar for dollar......The pricing you are getting on the Vista seems a little high for the way our dollar has been....Unless they are carrying a lot of old stock they need too clear out first....no lounge as mentioned, but very energy efficient, though heat generated is vented out and hence wasted...I wont mention my prices, but I live in a small city and the numbers you are throwing out seem high even with a low volume
  13. Well that’s great guys, but your price points must be dramatically different and or you are located in a different market, prices do change as per demographic, cost of warehousing etc etc. I have price shopped every dealer in my area and stringently research any product we carry, as do our owners who I have utmost faith in. I carry 2 lines with full foam insulation, and yes they have their benefits, but there are pros and cons to everything... What if you spring a leak in a full foam tub in the middle of winter? what happens to water when it freezes? It expands.... Without making this an entirely lengthy post the point is extreme damage can come from this and in the middle of winter, odds are you will be without a spa for a long while and may not even notice the leak for sometime... Without full foam there is room for the water to follow the path of least resistance and there is room for it to expand in the case of freezing... Again there are pros and cons to everything.... even winning the lottery....It's what’s right for you...I would just like to see a little less bashing and a little more technicalities when knocking other peoples products
  14. well thats great spatech, and thats whats right for you. Personally though I couldn't justify paying and extra 3000 dollars to get a little extra insulation, even an extra 1000 dollars, most entry level tubs have one pump, no Ozone, and very few jets...To me massage is important, if it wasn't I'd just jump in my bath tub which wasn't 5+ g's. His tub has 40 jets which is also unheard of in that price point At any rate it's what's right for you I'm not a service tech but if I was to add anything in the way of insulation I would add roxul...It will act as a fire stop as well as insulate. Polystyrene or Styrofoam products burn very quickly.. don't get the safe and sound stuff, you want R14 attic and wall insulation. wiremans suggestion is also a thought
  15. I apologize. I was beginning to generalize with ways to cut costs. The legacy line does not have air controls and you certainly do not want to close all your jets before you get out.....there would be no point in your spa purging its lines if you did that, and movement is important with filtering cycles I still think you got a great spa....show me another one that compares which has a stereo, 2 pumps, a CD Ozone for that price....I would leave your temp gage at 98
