  1. How about just re-designing the deck? My deck is free standing 1 inch away from the house. Avoids rotting the wood from water accumulation at the joint.
  2. Bought my Tundra LE with Genesis salt water system (no Onzen) back in October. Paid $15000 but did not have to pay taxes at all on tub because I have aboriginal status (found that out 2 years ago!). About 1 week after installation, one of the diverters started making a weird suction sound. Called the dealer and as it wasn't an emergency, they booked me 3 days later. The repair man came in while I was at work and fixed the problem. Total cost of repair (including travel charges) ???? $ 0.00. My dealer is about 40 KM away and never charged me for the service call. Not sure what would happen if I required another service call but..... kudos to the Ottawa store. My tub has been low maintenance and worry free from the start and we use it on a daily basis. Couldn't be happier !
  3. I have an Arctic Tundra LE with the Genesis system and couldn't be happier. My wife suffers from rosecea and traditional chems were not an option. Although I could have had it if I insisted, my dealer did not recommend the Onzen system and from reading this forum, I'm glad I didn't get it. A lot of people seem to be having some problems with it. The Genesis system is extremely easy to use and I have never had any problems balancing my water. And more importantly, I very rarely need to add anything to the water. A capful of Instant Shock after heavy usage and that's about it.
  4. I have an 8 seater Arctic Tundra (540 US gallons) and my electricity bill for DEC-JAN went up by $ 50/month compared to last year. I'm happy considering that I also added an adult to the household and that we've had record colds in JAN. We like to keep the tub at 103. Snow does not melt around the cabinet which I think is a good sign. Haven't worked out the increase in consumption or if we had a price increase since last year but if adding 1 adult and 1 hot tub means only a $50/month increase in Hydro bills, I'm a happy camper!
  5. I would think at that temperature, you would have the water vapor turning to snow, kind of like a "lake effect" snowstorm. It did not happen at -20.i thought it was the best combo going,105 degrees on one side -20 on the other.you go back and forth between the two extreams. Unreal! Glad I live in the South but from the looks of the forecast, I'm not that much better off this week. Last time it was -40 I was serving drinks out of glasses I had carved out of ice. My Australian sister-in-law was very impressed (by the glasses, not the cold weather).
  6. -40 again for the next few days! I'll try to take some pics of the foggy spa.
  7. That's incredible. BTW, -40C=-40F. At some point it seems like you would turn into an ice cube as soon as you got out. Needless to say that the hot water and cold air generate so much fog that you can't even see other bathers in the tub!
  8. So far we've used the tub at -40 celcius. It hurts when you go in but you retain enough heat on the way out to make it bearable. We also put up a vapour barrier screen to cut the icy wind. Our hair still froze on our heads !
  9. My dealer doesn't even offer Onzen. He prefers to retrofit a salt water system (think it's called Genesis). All I can say is that we just love that system. It has been very low maintenance so far (2 months).
  10. I went for the Tundra and have absolutely no regrets. I like the fact the the seats are varied in depth and that even my 10 year old son has a favorite seat. Although I do have Therapy Air, we rarely use it. We only took it because they already had a spa with all our "must haves" in Edmonton and it had Therapy Air. Paid around $ 15000 for the Tundra Legend Extreme with the salt water option. This is the loaded model and only thing missing is Wet Tunes/Aquatremor. I already have Dry Tunes....
  11. Well, I don't know what Spa-Pilot or TecniChlor/ColorChlor are but I can tell you that I really like this system. My dealer isn't very fond of Onzen and just sells this for salt water systems. Aaaargh ! Changed the water today but at 97 degrees, it's still a tad too cold to be pleasant. No tub tonight!
  12. Ok, so I've been reading this forum for a couple of months now and see a lot of people having water maintenance problems. My wife suffers from rosacea so we had to be very careful about chemicals so we opted for a salt water system. Well, as I was draining the tub today to make it through winter, I decided to remove one of the panels to see exactly what my system was. Was it Onzen? I just wasn't sure. Turns out it called a Purity Chlorine / Bromine Generator and Ionization system. My dealer has been retro-fitting these for a year or so and I must say, maintenance could not be easier! The water is always crystal clear, no chemical smells and apart from a bit of easy shock after heavy use and MPS once , I have never added anything else to my water and tests are always near perfect. This system added $1500 to the invoice but so far, it was worth every penny! Anybody else have this system?
  13. Just to let you know that the site seemed to be down last night. I don't think any foul play was involved.
  14. I agree with Calv1n. I also have an Arctic Tundra and even the cool down seats are jetted and have different depths. 7 people are still very comfortable in it. Another party this Saturday so I'll be able to triple-check!
