  1. Ray Thank you for sharing your info How often do you empy your tub?? John I empty the hot tub every three months. An interesting thing about my reaction to MPS is that it did take about two months to react to it. But now even after a refill.... a small amount of MPS will cause a rash within hours.

  3. I don't want to change the topic of this thread.... but introduce another possibility for your rash. Last year..... I developed a similar rash which nurses and doctors thought was "Hot Tub Itch". They put me on a number of strong medications....... but it kept coming back. After visiting a dermatologist several times they found the culprit MPS! After emptying the tub and re-filling.... I know just use di-chlor to get the stabilizer levels up to 20.... then just use bleach after each use..... along with a ozonator.... I have not had the slightest rash in the last 9 months.... I have read around the internet that There are people allergic to MPS ..... especially men. Good luck in finding the sourse of your rash.... I am certainly glad I found mine..... because I love the hot tub.
  4. I have used the product made by baquacil to remove small amounts of chlorine. Seems to work great. After using it... there were no traces of chlorine. When the baquaspa was added.... there was no clouding or color change.
  5. After waiting a week ...since adding the MPS and maintaining the Bromine at 3ppm (with ozonator) I went in........ and within hours... had a rash. I took the easy way out this time... I already had Baqua spa chemicals.... so I drained, cleaned and started up with Baqua spa. I have never had any real problems with it. Allergy is gone ! I would like to find out which component (MPS, Bromine) is causing the problem.... I might have to go to an allergist to isolate the allergy. I'll keep everyone posted...
  6. Thanks for the great answer! In my case... I had just re-filled the hot tub and put in some MPS as an initial shock. Went in about 5 hours later... and had a rash. Nothing terrible... just annoying. I'm hoping it disapates enough not to cause any problems.... I have'nt been in for 3 days and have just been maintaining the bromine at 3ppm. I run ozone and a mineral cartridge. I don't feel like dumping the water again so soon if I don't have to.
  7. Recently I found out that I am allergic to products that contain MPS. I use Bromine in my hot tub as a sanitizer. My understanding is that you can use either chorine or MPS to "activate" the Bromine. Chlorine gets totaly converted to Bromine. Does anyone know if MPS is converted in a way that the MPS allergy would not happen? I'd like to have the option of using either if possible.
  8. Thanks for the detailed answer.... I have pretty much doing as you suggest. I'm a little surprised that I have to keep the floater turned down almost all the way.... to provide 2-4 ppm. Thanks
  9. A lot of great information on this site! My question deals with getting into a daily routine using bromine as a sanitizer. I currently use a floating dispenser with tabs... the tabs are Leisure Time Bromine.... which contain bromine and chlorine... that being the case... is daily addition of chlorine or MPS needed, as its always being added via the floater... I know a weekly shock dose is needed. What do other folks do?
